Product Description

From the Manufacturer

If Gerber had settled for making just one version of the Paraframe knife, people might have been content. Because this reputable example of frame lock design caught on admirably among knife lovers...making the Gerber Paraframe a mainstay of the industry. But we figured there's no merit in being stingy, so we worked up a total of eight versions. And the people were pleased. There is a simplicity to this knife that relates as much to function as it does to form. It's a breeze to open. The clip point blade configuration is ideal for cutting in close quarters. Openness rules the day where the handle is concerned—there's more air than metal—so it's quite lightweight and quite easy to keep clean. Clip a Paraframe into your pocket, and you're fully equipped to take care of business. Your only challenge is figuring out which one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good knife at a good price, March 17, 2005
To start I really like this knife; I have been through several knifes that range from $5 to $30 and this one works well without costing more. They have changed the way the knife locks and so a previous problem has been remedied. Now the frame holds the knife in place and will not close without serious force. So, if you are looking for a knife to keep handy on your pocket, that will open with one hand, stay in place, stay sharp, and not break the bank. Then buy this knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good knife for the price, February 5, 2010

I found out about this knife after reading about this 33 day hike in Alaska: [...]. I noticed they had this knife and it looked cool so I found out what model it was and was surprised to find it was relatively cheap. Needing a new pocket knife, I ordered it!

Here are my impressions: This knife feels very solid, and the blade is very sharp. When opened and locked in, the blade has very little side to side wiggle. The weight is perfect for a knife this size. Not too heavy but with enough weight to feel like it's well made.

Downsides: (1) The smooth body of the knife is hard to get a good grip on when opening the blade. The finger impressions give you a fairly good grip after the blade is opened, but still the knife is very smooth with no texture. It really only affects me when opening one-handed.

(2) Initially, the blade is *very* hard to flick out one handed. After a month of use it has loosened up a bit so it's easier now, no complaints. The knife has a retention pin that snaps into a depression on the blade when closed which helps it to not open accidentally - this is the cause of this. It just takes some use and it's not so stiff as brand new.

Coming from the Kershaw assisted opener knives, I was initially a little disappointed that this knife wouldn't do the same but quickly figured out all it takes is a little flick of the wrist while pushing the blade out and it snaps out to full lock smartly.

I prefer the smooth blade to the serrated blades for a couple reasons. Serrations are *much* harder to sharpen, if you do your own knife sharpening. Also, the serrations are in the spot on the blade you would use for carving or whittling, which makes the blade useless or extremely less than optimal for this purpose if it has them.

Overall, good knife, I'll probably carry this thing every day until it breaks, if ever. Or I lose it, which unfortunately is what usually happens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome knife., September 26, 2009

It's an awesome knife. I just didn't give it five stars because it needed sharpening. Now after sharpening it, can cut nicely without forcing the knife.
