This is easily the best table lamp that I've had. I have had all kinds of table lamps(though I haven't tried the new "daylight" or "natural light" lamps). I have had table lamps with plastic shades - they get burnt or get discolored if they stay on for extended periods. I have had lamps with metal shades too. These ones have that characteristic burning smell which I hate - it sometimes give me headaches. Then, finally, I bought this lamp. The base is too ornate/loud for my taste(I like minimalist designs). But I bought it anyway and I have enjoyed it ever since. It looks cool and can be used to just decorate your room. Most importantly, the shade doesn't smell. I love it.

Picked up this lamp a couple weeks ago to use on my rolltop computer desk in my den ... nice looking lamp, really like the heavy base as there is no risk of this lamp falling over when you pull the chain-switch. The green glass top is adjustable for light coverage, and the switch to turn the light on and off is crisp -- no struggling and fighting to turn the lamp off and on. The only reason I didn't give this lamp five stars for this review is because I was leaning over it a week or so ago, trying to adjust some cords running out of the back of my laptop computer, and I burned the underside of my forearm rather fiercely on the green glass top of the lamp -- it was extremely hot! I replaced the included incandescent light bulb with an energy-saving fluorescent one and the issue was resolved -- the lamp is no longer a danger due to that overheated glass. I recommend the same move for anyone who purchases this lamp --- it works great with the spiral compact fluorescent bulb! OK,
