Great product., June 22, 2007
I have had this product for 4 months now and I absolutely love it. I have made chicken breast, salmon, snapper, shrimps, steak and other things using this machine and although I was very skeptical at first I am proud to say that it actually works. The food is cooked and very tasty but best of all it is finished cooking quickly. Although the included cook book varies in cooking time, I find I always have to add a minute or two extra, for certain food, but other times I can minus a minute also. For example fresh chicken is recommended as cooking time 3 minutes, however I cook mine for at least 4 minutes, and frozen burger meat is recommended at 7 minutes however I cook it for 6 minutes and it is well done. So it all depends on your microwave and you using your judgement.
Although I think the world of this product, I do have some negatives to add also. Firstly, the size. This product can hold two burger meats at a time and for other foods, e.g., chicken breast and steak I would only recommend cooking one at a time, or the food will not be prepared properly. So this con is major especially if you have a big family, however I guess this can be solved if you have more than one micro grill so that you can add more food the minute you take out the prepared one.
Another negative, and this is by far the worst flaw I can think of and it relates to the size as well, is that when you grill certain foods like burger meat, the oil and juices that are in the burger meat naturally are released when being cooked so when the meat is finished cooking there is juice in the grill so that when you try to take out the micro grill from the microwave, you end up with oil and juice being spilled every where on the floor etc. This happened to me before, and most recently yesterday. I had burger juice all over my floor and my counter. However, I just cleaned it up and continued cooking. After all you can't expect perfection. I just wish that the manufacturer would release a newer version and make it deeper so that spills can be prevented.
Other than that, this product works. I have recommended it to my mom and my sister. My mom already bought her self one and my sister is still in the "I want to wait until I visit you to see this product in action" phase.

A very very nice product, but a few reservations, August 7, 2007
I just bought this from a retailer that sells linens and related products for about $25, considerably less than what it currently retails for on TV. The product provides several advantages over those George Foreman type contact grills, but at least one disadvantage.
First it really wonderful to be able to quickly cook up a steak or a chicken breast that is tasty and fast in the microwave. The item needs 2 minutes of pre-heating (compared to around 9 for an electric type grille) and then needs about 7 minutes to cook say a boneless frozen breast, versus about 10 for an electric grill.
It offers several of the advantages of those grills, with a floating top plate to accommodate foods of different thicknesses, plus its dishwasher safe (only true in the pricier models of contact grills).
Clean up is easy which is nice. I scraped it a bit with a plastic spatula, wiped it with a sponge and was done in seconds.
Another advantage is that there was not a lot of smoke or smell, which I find when I cook meats in either a contact grill or a stovetop griddle or pan.
How does the food taste (and look)? The big question. I use this product mostly with meats. I think that food comes out cooked just right, with meats flavorful tender and juicy. And yes, it's healthy because there's not much fat used and fat can drip away. There is absolutely no hint of the rubberiness that would suggest this was cooked in a microwave. However, I think the company marketing this exaggerates in calling this a grill. It's really more of a non-stick griddle that provides a similar flavor and texture to roasting.
Electric contact grills also exaggerate these claims, though I think meats come out of those products just a little closer to a true grille, with more pronounced grill marks in an electric grill. Grill marks from meats in the micro grill are not that pronounced at all. But its worth repeating, the meat is tender and juicy and flavorful. Just don't believe the hype that food is truly grilled here. (For this reason, I give it 4 stars rather than 5).
TIPS - you must read the instruction booklet. For the micro grill to do its job well, you need to know how to use it. It needs to be preheated just so, it's recommended it be used in a unit of 900 watts or more (those smaller microwaves may not generate the necessary heat). Lightly coating meat with a sauce like teriyaki, or olive oil really helps develop a nice seared exterior.
This product is great for quick, tasty and healthy meals and especially useful for singles and couples.

A slam dunk for your kitchen, July 31, 2007
If you are a single, or a couple - this is your next appliance. Buy it now. It's amazing. As long as you don't use any metal with it whatsoever - you're fine. It cooks better than I do with a skillet and conventional oven. Sure it's small, but for the convenience, I'll take it. It actually cooks food faster than a microwave does on its own - and much much better. It also cooks bread and dough like an oven does! It will blow your mind to see well-cooked pizza from scratch come out of your microwave, but you will.
Two tips for using this for larger portions:
1) get two grills, prep the second one while the first cooks, and make one after the other
2) stack meat filets twice, cook for 4 minutes, and flip BOTH pieces over so the uncooked gets some grill side love. You'll make twice as much food with only a teensy bit of time added.
3) Wanna laugh? Make meatloaf with this and watch what happens. (make sure it's not too runny though, for best results)
This product will revolutionize cooking for singles, IMHO - especially travellers and college students....you folks NEED this appliance.
