Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Equipped with Root8 Cyclone technology, this Dyson upright vacuum cleaner ensures thorough, efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Effective for use on all floor types, the unit's motorized brushbar can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect delicate rugs and floors. Specially designed edge-cleaning whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow. The vacuum cleaner also supplies a Telescope reach wand, which releases and expands to 17 feet at the touch of a button for stairs and high-reach cleaning. The unit's on-board tools include an advanced mini turbine head for cleaning in confined areas or removing pet hair from upholstery, stairs, and the car, and a bare-floor tool that quickly attaches to the wand for gently cleaning bare floors.

Providing the highest levels of filtration for cleaner expelled air, the unit not only comes with a HEPA filtration system, but also a washable pre-motor lifetime filter, which removes particles down to 0.1 micron, and a post-motor electrostatic filter that traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor and never needs replacing. Furthermore, Dyson upright vacuums are the first and only vacuums certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. The cleaner's hygienic 5/7-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--simply pull the trigger. The clear bin allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when the bin's full. Other highlights include a wide channel for picking up larger pieces, auto carpet-height adjustment, a 35-2/5-foot cable length, a maximum reach of 52-2/5 feet, and an ergonomic design with a low handle that feels lighter to carry. An extra washable pre-motor filter comes included, plus a carpet-cleaning kit, which includes Zorb powder to absorb dirt from carpets and Dyzolve spot cleaner to remove spills and marks. Made from ABS and polycarbonate, the same materials used to manufacture crash helmets, the vacuum delivers unquestionable durability. The 12 amp vacuum cleaner measures 13-3/8 by 14 by 44-6/7 inches and carries a five-year limited warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE vacuum for the hairy dog household!, November 26, 2007

I'm no newcomer to the Dyson. I started out with a DC07; this DC14 represents an upgrade.

First of all, the Dyson is just an amazing machine. I have one of the hairiest dogs in creation; it's practically impossible to keep up with her shedding. The Dyson is the star in my anti-hair arsenal and efforts to keep the dog hair tumbleweeds at bay.

I purchased the first Dyson almost three years ago, and it still works like a champ. The DC14 is an improvement on an excellent concept. First of all, it seems lighter and easier to maneuver. This particular model didn't come with the "Animal" tools; I got those with my first purchase. But the tools are interchangeable, so I was going more for the upgraded model than for the attachments.

The big improvement with this model is the one-touch retractable wand. The older unit was a bit of a chore trying to get the wand out. Just required a lot more effort...you get used to it, but it's never as easy or comfortable as it could be. The DC14 takes care of that. The telescoping wand is relatively easy to use (esp. if you had the previous version.) The tension in the hose is still pretty tight, which makes it an olympic event if you try to do stairs with this (it helps if you can get your toddler to sit on the vaccum...jes' kidding, but I did think of it!)

This model has a wider mouth, more of a path to suck up stuff so you don't have to go over the same spot more than once. And yes, you still get a pile full of sandy stuff outta the carpet that the lil' pup dragged in on his paws.

I'm definitely pleased. And at this price ($299 of this writing), it's a definite bargain of the kind you can only get on Amazon.

Update: I've been asked what the accessories are with this model. It comes with a Stiff Bristle Brush (you can find that as an additional accessory on Amazon) and a rug cleaning kit. That kid includes a package of Dyson's rug cleaning compound, Zorb; a Zorb aerosol spot cleaner; and some device that either grinds in or sucks up the Zorb.

[...]

I'd suggest looking at ALL the Amazon Dyson options and the pricing before you pull the trigger on this particular version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should have bought one ages ago but didn't because of Consumer Reports ratings, November 28, 2007
By AmazonAddict (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is my first Dyson, and it is fabulous. I have several animals including a dog that sheds every second and a cat that has long very fine hair that develops static attraction to anything it touches (especially carpets) and is very hard to get out. After I vacuumed with my old Kenmore vacuum, I would still have to scrub my area rug with a wet sponge in order to get all of the cat hair up (gosh, I hate that). This Dyson gets 95% of this hair up with no problem, and I believe that with regular vacuuming, I won't have to use that sponge ever again.

Here is some background: I purchased a new vacuum cleaner about 3 years ago based off of Consumer Reports. I got the Kenmore Progressive, it was given a rave review and cost around $300. I decided not to buy a Dyson because the Consumer Reports review was mediocre. However, this Dyson cleans circles around that Kenmore. I am at a loss as to what Consumer Reports was thinking. This Dyson gets up the very fine cat hair and much more that my Kenmore can not. It really does suck up everything. I can't believe the amount of dirt, animal dander and hair it has collected.

If you are torn about buying a Dyson because of the Consumer Reports mediocre recommendation, you may want to take a look at the reviews from individuals (like Amazon offers) that Consumer Reports now offers online. I found that the Kenmore that Consumer Reports recommended did not get rave reviews from individual consumers (actually there were a lot of disappointments), but the Dyson reviews rated very high. I also know several people who own Dysons, and they swear by them. So after seeing this, and the new 5-year warranty, I bit the bullet and bought the Dyson.

Now I am angry with myself that I didn't buy it three years ago.

The Dyson works incredibly well, it cleans like you'd expect the Dyson to clean and it's surprisingly quiet. I especially love how easy and light it is to use.
