2.0 out of 5 stars didn't work, February 20, 2008
Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monopoly Town (Toy)
I bought this game for my sons 5th birthday thinking it'd be a lot of fun to play and he could play with ease. Imagine the disappointment he and I both felt when it didn't work. The car counts the spaces as you move it, however it didn't always register the spaces.. sometimes I could move 4-5 spaces and it'd only count 1, and sometimes I'd move 1 space as told and it'd tell me to move back 3. We returned it and got a new one hoping it was just a defective one, but no, the second one was just as horrible. We returned it and are looking at other games for him now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Construction, August 5, 2008
Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monopoly Town (Toy)
There is no way to sugarcoat this. The game construction is very poor and unacceptable. At the four points where the track connects, the car is very hard to move past. As a result the car can jump the tracks. As others have said if you move the car slowly it does better at counting. But if a 4 to 5 year old is trying to get it past one of the four connection points, he has to give it a good push. This usually results in the car counting wrong or worse the car coming off the track.

The counting issue also happens if you don't push the car very smoothly. This is not easy for a 4 to 5-year old. Especially for long moves, he pushes it part of the way, then re-adjusts to push it the next few spaces. His arms just aren't long enough. As others have said this may happen from the car registering multiple times on the same bump. Also moving too fast may cause the car to lift and not register on a bump. Mom or dad will need to hold the track to prevent it from moving when children are moving the car.

Hasbro should have spent a little more money in making the track. The car, houses, and money are fine. The concept of the game is fine for a 4 to 5 year old. The money really doesn't matter for winning, but my son does like it when mom or dad have to pay him though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great classroom game!, April 2, 2008

Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Monopoly Town (Toy)
I bought this game for my classroom - special ed. It works on counting skills and paying money for rent. After playing around with it, we figured out that you need to move the car slowly and listen to the car counting. You also need to read the directions and have the button on the steering wheel pushed out of "training mode". The kids had lots of fun playing. They learned about paying rent, and the "go" and "chance" parts of the game. For visually impaired students and the students that have trouble with one to one correspondence, the car counting the spaces works great. I am going to laminate the game board insert and the money though because they won't take too much of a beating from the kids. They will be able to play this game without direct staff help - which makes them feel great!
