Pricey but works - cheap recharger, March 9, 2008
This review is from: NEW! Northern Technologies FEEL BRIGHT LIGHT VISOR SAD LIGHT THERAPY (Health and Beauty)
It works for me, a relief as I get SADD by the end of Oregon's long grey winters. If only it was not so pricey.
Why they can't send a recharger with a light that shows if it's on is beyond me. You can't tell if the recharger, when plugged into the wall, is actually turned on. I had to wait and see if the visor would poop out to determine if the charger was working. For more than $200, it's cheap of them.
It's nit picking, but the packaging is really cheap looking also. I opened the shipping box, could not believe that this was what I'd ordered. Looked like some sort of novelty item.
Complaints aside, the thing works for me, and for that I am grateful.

Helped me with sleep, not mood - overpriced, March 17, 2008
This review is from: NEW! Northern Technologies FEEL BRIGHT LIGHT VISOR SAD LIGHT THERAPY (Health and Beauty)
Well, I had such high hopes for this little number. As a mom of a two-year-old, I have zero time to sit in front of a light, so I thought the visor would do the trick. For two weeks I used it for thirty minutes a day at 10,000 lux. I felt better in the mornings, but became incredibly irritable in the afternoons...like PMS times fifty. Note: I don't have depression, just the winter blues and trouble with my sleep cycle in the dark months. Now I just use it occasionally for 12 minutes on 8,000 lux. This seems to help with my sleep and does not make me irritable (but doesn't improve my mood, either). I'm very dissapointed in this side-effect, which was not mentioned anywhere in the literature. Overall, this light is just no replacement for a trip to Mexico...and I think it's very overpriced for what you get.

Perfect, January 30, 2010
This review is from: NEW! Northern Technologies FEEL BRIGHT LIGHT VISOR SAD LIGHT THERAPY (Health and Beauty)
I'm a professional, bought this for a family member, and believe me it does exactly what it is designed for. If you want research, go to pubmed and queery "bright light therapy and depression", and you'll find that it's become a standard therapy for seasonal affective disorder and effective for depression. This is not a cheap unit as described by one reviewer above. It is not at all equivalent to two bike lights shining in your eyes. The quality is excellent, butttons are solid, lights are effective and well angled, and the visor is easily adjustable. No, you can run on your treadmill in it, but you wouldn't want to. You can begin your day, walk around (bump into things, be carefull), read a book, chat with someone, cook breakfast, etc. This a quality piece of equipment, and is a very viable and effective therapy for depression, and helpful for fibromyalgia and some other disorders.
