Product Description

From the Manufacturer

From the Manufacturer

The Smartparts SP3200 digital picture frame features a 16:9, widescreen LCD panel, and displays photos in high-definition with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.
Smartparts SP320 won the 2008 American Photo Editors Choice Award
Smartparts SP320 won the 2008 American Photo Editors Choice Award for Imaging Essentials
The frame can also play back video with sound, including MPEG, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, WMA and AVI files, all at their native resolutions. In addition to being able to control the SP3200 directly from the unit, you can also operate the frame via RF remote control. With an operating range of over 100 feet, the RF remote gives consumers the ability to navigate through the SP3200’s graphical user interface and change settings from a significant distance -- a useful feature especially if the frame is mounted high or not within reach.

The SP3200 accepts all types of memory cards, including Memory Stick (MS), Secure Digital (SD) and Compact Flash (CF). Additionally, with Smartparts’ advanced OptiPix Pro software, you can optimize and resize their images to fit the aspect ratio and resolution of the frame, giving the ability to store up to 1,500 pictures on the SP3200’s 256 MB of internal memory.

Included with the SP3200, Smartparts’ exclusive OptiPix Pro software is designed to help effortlessly locate, optimize and transfer pictures to the frame from your PC, all in just three easy to-follow steps. Furthermore, OptiPix Pro will not alter your original photos. OptiPix Pro first creates copies which are then optimized and transferred to the frame, leaving the original, untouched photo residing on the computer. OptiPix Pro also gives you the ability to convert and transfer PowerPoint slides, PDF files, and most picture and graphic files directly to the SP3200, a useful feature especially for business or retail applications.

By using the OptiPix Pro’s content based scaling option, you can automatically crop 4:3 or other sized images to fit the widescreen aspect ratio of the frame. By using specially-programmed algorithms, OptiPix Pro will crop the consumer’s 4:3 image to 16:9, making sure that key subject matter within a picture is not lost or stretched.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of SmartParts 32" Digital Frame, September 2, 2008
By L. Hardamon (Smittcamp Family Honors College, California State University, Fresno) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Absolutely wonderful product. Easy setup, beautiful picture quality. Works well with MAC or PC formats.
Only "slight" adjustment for us was that it has a 4" gap between unit and wall. Has produced many "Wow" moments in our office.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Picture Quality, January 12, 2009
I chose this product primarily for its aesthetics: brown wooden frame with white museum-quality mat, and a nice 32" widescreen LCD screen. It was a perfect choice for the picture that would ordinarily go over the fireplace mantel. Notwithstanding the fact that it costs twice as much as any other 32" LCD that might boast a built-in DVD player or TV tuner (this unit does not offer either of those), the Smartparts SP3200 is primarily a conversation piece, with stunning picture quality, and a pretty universal acceptance of most media cards on the market.

This is actually my second unit, as the first unit was glitchy from the get-go--as in D.O.A. Crashed and re-booted on its own, made funny noises out of its speakers, and had squiggly lines running across the LCD screen. Sometimes it would turn on, and sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it would recognize the SD Card, and sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes it wouldn't turn on at all. Obviously a lemon.

[...]

Although it takes a variety of card formats, I decided to use a 2-gig SD card with it. The SD card easily accepted about 250 high-resolution pictures (can be used in jpeg format only), and over 125 songs (can be used in .mp3 format only), so it can play music while you while you watch your video slideshow. There's still room to spare on the SD card. It will also accept video (in .avi format only), and has a built-in clock, timer, and lots of features to adjust the picture quality and slideshow presentation (e.g., zoom, rotate, fast/medium/slow transition speeds, contrast & color saturation adjustments, etc.). If you don't want to use a memory card, it has built-in memory of 250mb, which is satisfactory, but could have been bigger.

The picture frame also comes with a wall-mounting bracket[...]. The remote control is a little flimsy, and it takes a little getting used to, to operate properly (e.g., hit "exit" twice then "menu" once to make screen adjustments), but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. At least the operating manual is legible, and nicely laid out.
[...]
Overall, I'm very happy with the replacement model, and am keeping my fingers crossed that this unit doesn't become defective as the first one was (right out of the box).

Pros:

*Nice wooden frame with white-bordered matte
*Solidly built with a hefty weight to it (about 35 lbs.)
*Doesn't look cheap or flimsy at all
*LCD screen has stunning picture quality
*Menu adjustments are plentiful with many options
*Nicely packaged to prevent damage while in transit
*Operating manual is clear, concise and easy to undertand
*Accepts many different types of memory cards
*Comes with wall-mounting bracket, which is easy to assemble

Cons:

*Tech support is not very good (but they do answer the phone live)
*Does not come with picture management software in the box--you'll need to know that you can get this for free as a download from their website
*A little pricey, [...]
*All controls, including the power on/off are from the remote control, which is very flimsily built. The unit itself has no on/off button or adjustment controls on it, so you'll need the remote control for everything. Don't lose it or break it, or you're S.O.L.
*No built-in TV tuner or DVD player (not that it's supposed to have these, but for that price, you can buy a 32" LCD TV that accepts SD cards for half the price)
*Unit only accepts photos in .jpeg format, videos only in .avi format, and music only in .mp3 format. So if you have other formats such as .tiff, .gif, .mp4, .wav, etc., forget it. You'll need to get file converter software to convert your files to the accepted formats.
*Note that there is a new model coming out in Spring 2009 that accepts wi-fi/wireless communication downloads to the picture frame (SP3200WF). This model does not; however, the new model is supposed to be priced[...] more when it comes out--pricing is not official yet.
*More built-in memory probably wouldn't cost the manufacturer much (more)

Neutral:

*Please also note that the SP3200 has to be plugged into the wall, and the cord is 3-prong and pretty darn thick. Fortunately, I had electrical in the middle of my wall, so the wiring is hidden, but I'm guessing most people won't be so lucky. Also the plug sticks straight out from the wall, which can interfere with the mounting bracket, and the physical placement of your unit on the wall. My recommendation to SmartParts is to switch the plug to one of those flat-style ones that inserts flat to the electrical outlet, instead of sticking out about 2 inches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Show Stopper, November 16, 2008
I looked hard for a large electronic picture frame. I wanted one to mount above my fireplace on a 22 ft high wall that would not be lost in all that space. This product is awesome. The picture quality is awesome! Everyone who comes in comments on how incredible the frame is and where did I get it.
