This mat is just what I needed and does all it promises to do. I doubted the self-healing part but it really does not show any cuts after using it for over 6 months. I don't use it every day and I use a Tonic Studios 806 Mini Rotary Perforator as my cutting tool so other uses and durations may tax it more. But for my use it works great. I make card-stock hang tags for my handmade products I sell at craft fairs and perforate one part of the tag to use as an inventory management tool. The little perforator works great with this mat. The lines printed on the mat help me keep the cutting edge straight and it has a great feel to cut against. The price is outstanding for what it does for me. I'm a very happy camper.

The mat is terrific but the grid is not square. Over the 42" length it is almost 1/8" off square. For most projects this probably will not create a problem but if you MUST have absolutely square cuts do not use the grid. I will make the necessary adjustments to compensate when I need the absolute square or use my T square to attain it. Other than that I love the mat.

Surprised? Yes, I was. But it's been 4 years since I bought this 42 x 30 mat. No disappointments. No regrets. It still looks brand new. I'm still happy.

My original LARGER than large flexible plastic mat was very expensive. It was made for blade cuts. NOT! It got grooves, pits, and was not easy to store. The cutting marks were not exact enuf. It slid all over the table top. When in doubt, I threw it out! Never looking back. Very good move. Cause this Professional Cutting Mat will go on forever. And if I need another size -- I will buy it!

I got tired of the cut marks on our table, so I bought this for my wife. It has been working great for her. The product quality is fantastic and it's nice to have it be two colors. When she isn't using it I find myself wanting to use it as a giant mouse pad. I am a computer junkie and an avid gamer. I often times am setting up computers on her sewing table, which is big enough that they tend to sit there for a few days. I really like the resistance this cutting mate offers as a mouse pad. I am thinking of purchasing a smaller one for my desk area that my computer and peripherals can sit on. So i don't have to worry about a mouse pad, because this thing is very durable.

All I'm really doing is cutting stuff like photo paper, cardstock, chipboard/paperboard, and cardboard, but I'm literally just using a standard one edge razor blade held in a $1 box cutter and so far this mat doesn't show a mark even with the amount of pressure you need to cut stuff like chipboard and cardboard.

It may not seem like a big deal, but the hole in the mat is extremely helpful since I can hang this on the back of my closet door. Otherwise it would be awkward to store, and it would not be easy to cut your own hole in this thing. (Maybe an electric drill with a new rather sharp bit would work but I bet the hole wouldn't be very clean.)

Alvin is the brand that my digital media arts school uses and the ones there, even after constant heavy use, never seem to have any cut marks in them that I'd notice while using the mats.

I got an 18x12" Alvin mat here for something like $10 which is somewhere between half and one third as much as Michael's (big chain craft store) wanted for the same size thing in some other brand that I didn't even recognize.

I received this product about 6 months ago and absolutely LOVE it! I made a king size rag quilt, using this mat to do all of my cutting, and there are no cut marks on the mat! It still looks like new! I also like the two different color sides! I personally used the green side for most of the project, but when I had a fabric that was close to the same color as the green, I just flipped it over and used the black side. The mat seems very heavy duty and I hope it lasts through many more projects!
