4.0 out of 5 stars Guilty Pleasure!, December 3, 2008
By Lisa Verson (Dayton, OH) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Real Housewives of NYC is one of those shows I watch as a guilty pleasure. It's interesting to see how the other half lives (and in some cases, how they act towards one another). The OC Housewives will always be my favorite, but these girls were rather interesting to watch.

First there is Countess LuAnn - She is very classy but I felt that she thought she owned the city. She could be very snobby at times (then again, they're all a bit snobby at times), like when she told Bethenny not to introduce her to limo drivers as "LuAnn".

Jill - Ah Jill. She was my favorite housewife. I felt that she was/is the most grounded of the women and one of the most honest. You can really see how much she loves her daughter. Though she could be the gossip queen, she was still great to watch!

Ramona - Ugh. She annoyed me very much. I hated her attitude in general. She overreacted at every single little issue and was very self-centered. It was kind of fun to watch her in the reunion as everyone kind of put her in her place.

Bethenny - How can you not love her? She is blunt and if something bothered her, she let the others know about it. I loved that about her. She was also the funniest with her one-liners. It's actually pretty cool how she blogs for the show "Top Chef" (since she herself is a chef) as well as this show.

Alex - I don't know why Alex was on the show; yes she is very wealthy, but at the same time she is not in the same "social circle" (two words mentioned several times in the show) as the other women. I thought it was a little weird that she and her husband spend the amount of time together that they do (I know they love each other and that's great, but doing ALL of your shopping together and getting manicures and pedicures together??). Her kids are cute though.

Overall, it's another Real Housewives show, just in another city with VERY different women compared to the OC women, but then again they live in very different places, which should also be put into consideration when you watch this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Depends on what you like, October 12, 2008
By R.A. (Destin, FL United States) - See all my reviews
I could not wait from week to week to watch this show. I'm here viewing the ones I missed at $1.99 a show. These women are the best entertainment---4 society women and one wannabe from Brooklyn.

Luann married a Count and LuAnn is all about her status as a Countess---she tells us this over and over. What regal family would name their child "LuAnn?" We never hear about her past; but that would be great fun! She's totally not into the mommy-track and abandons her kids as soon as hubby leaves town for Europe.

There's Ramona, the 40 something sex kitten, who is loud and juicily inappropriate. She has a very proper child still in grade school who is mortified at her mom's "barbie" clothes.

The sane one seems to be the redhead who apparently is in a race with Ramona for the wealthiest. Believe me, they let you know. The Brooklyn woman (and her British accented hotel employee husband) want desperately to belong and spend all their money on jewels and gowns, while their house is in shambles.

Bethany is the best fun. She is the wealthy daughter of someone she hates. She goes to parties to "work the room" It's all about networking to get her chef business going. But the best part of Bethany is when she smiles and then tells later what she REALLY thinks---she's unbelievable fun! She's worth the money alone!

For instance, the Countess lays Bethany out for introducing the Countess to a driver as "LuAnn." Bethany later says (sans Countess) "Get over yourself." Only Bethany seems to be struck with the same sense of self importance when she goes to see the Brooklynites as a favor on their child's birthday. All the adults are talking to one another and she refuses and hangs with the kids---"What's the point?" she says. Such visions of the Countess' snootiness. And don't miss out when Bethany loses it and threatens to stab her red-head friend in the eye during dinner with 3 couples. Ouuuccchh!

It's GREAT entertainment. Catty times 10!!!
