hello,
These are awesome sticks. They have great interchangeable tips for pavement or inside or offroad. They came very quickly from the company. be sure and include your height when you order because they send the proper size based on your height. I love these. They cannot fall apart like the telescoping ones. makes my excersise fun!

I had to write this note to hopefully add a little clarity and reduce any confusion for new potential trekking pole users, in response to the marketing statement, "cheap twist lock adjustable poles from China".

First, not all telescoping poles are cheap or undependable or made in China . Although a one piece pole will always be stronger than a two piece pole, there are huge advantages to using an adjustable pole when going up or down steep hills. Suddenly, that one size pole is about 6 inches to short to provide braking action and reduce stress on the knees and ankles downhill. That one size pole handle is going to be much too tall when walking up a very steep grade. Steep ascents is one area where trekking poles are fantastically useful aids, since your arms can really help your legs out in a steep climb and you can get to feel a little like a four footed animal steep climbing. It feels like cheating to use arm power to help propel oneself up a steep hill and they also provide an overall body work out to an activity that is otherwise only working the legs. The only problem in going UP a hill, is when the pole placed in the ground in front of you, it may be 6" to 1 foot higher, depending on the incline. Some manufacturers provide a rubber covered pole section, under the handle for a quick elongated handle to grab or "choke up" (baseball batting term) on the pole, without having to slope and adjust the length when a short steep ascent is encountered. For longer walks up hills, a properly fitting handle on an adjustable pole is a must.

Speaking of handles, from my experience the one mistake most "newby" trekking poles walkers make is too save money and by the STRAIGHT poles, making the biggest mistake one can make when purchasing trekking poles.
I have found ONLY THE TREKKING POLES WITH AN ANGLED HANDLE (Called Positive Angle) GIVE THE PROPER WRIST POSITION TO GREATLY REDUCE STRESS ON ONES WRISTS. I would never own or recommend a pair of straight handled trekking poles, the experience is completely different and an inferior design. Angled handles cost more but are absolutely worth it. QUALITY adjustable poles (there are several designs) are much more flexible for over a range of inclines and are very important when used to brake the impact, when negotiating steep downhill stretches, as well as being able to fully use the arm muscles on steep ascents. I don't use my trekking poles much for flat walking on a good (non slippery/flat) trail, although others may need the stabilizing effect and only walk on flat tails. For flat walking, a non adjustable trekking pole should be fine, however a positive angled handle is still a major advancement and the importance cannot be overstated!
