It’s designed to be opened without the use of a box cutter or knife and will protect your product just as well as traditional packaging during shipping. The Kid Tough Digital Camera from Fisher-Price is rugged enough to go everywhere your child goes. What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Durable, easy way for kids to experience photography

The Bad: May seem bulky in little hands

In a Nutshell: This Fisher-Price camera really is Kid Tough.
At a Glance

Ages: 3 and up
Requires: Four AAA batteries
Easy to Start Taking Pictures
An adult will need to use a screwdriver to install the four AAA batteries before kids get their hands on this camera. With a textured button on the front that releases the shutter and large buttons on the back that let little hands turn the camera on and off, browse through pictures and delete images, using this camera is so easy it doesn't need to come with instructions.

The fun, brightly colored body helps distinguish this camera from boring adult models, making it an instant favorite.

Kid-Friendly Technology
Kids can pick between using the live view on a 1.5-inch color LCD preview screen or looking through the two-eye viewer when taking pictures. The preview screen also lets kids look at pictures the moment after they take them. With a built-in flash that automatically illuminates darkened scenes, and a shutter noise that makes it easy to know when a picture has been taken, kids are sure to be delighted by their images.

The 64 MB built-in memory stores up to 500 pictures and eliminates the need for handling fragile and expensive memory cards. Two image resolution settings, 0.3 and 1.3 interpolated mega pixels, let kids take plenty of pictures and make 4 x 6-inch prints.

Fun, Durable Way to Encourage Creativity
With its big rubberized grips and sturdy construction, we found this camera lived up to its incredibly durable reputation. Able to easily withstand being dropped again and again and waterproof for 30 minutes in up to three feet of water, this camera can handle the rough reality of active play.

The heavy-duty construction that makes this camera so durable can also make it seem somewhat bulky for little hands, but this won't prevent kids from wanting to take it on all their adventures.

Older children and adults may be disappointed by the image quality, but higher resolutions would allow less pictures to be stored and decrease the amount of fun children have with this camera. Kids quickly find that there's plenty of resolution for exercising creative urges and documenting the wonders of everyday life.

The camera comes with a USB cable so pictures can be downloaded quickly and easily for editing and viewing. It is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Apple Mac OSX, Apple Mac OS9 and requires a USB port 1.1 or higher for computer connectivity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tons of fun even if the pictures aren't great!, November 4, 2008
By Chryssa Jones (Indianapolis, IN, USA) - See all my reviews

Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
My son has gotten 3 full years of enjoyment out of this very durable camera (from 5 to 8 years old), and now his two-year-old little brother has just as much fun with it. The camera has survived drops, falls, throws, and every other sort of kid damage, and still works. The pictures are lousy - grainy, low resolution, and usually out of focus (it's a fixed-range lens, so if the subject is too close, as it often is with a kid behind the shutter, the picture comes out blurry). But that doesn't slow them down - the kids just love taking pictures, and I don't worry about them wasting film or breaking their camera. When we look at the pictures together, I give him suggestions on ways to improve his shots, and he likes to practice - and the pictures are getting better! Now he coaches his little brother for at least a half hour of quiet play at a time - ahh, sweet peace! Sometimes the pictures they take come out just adorable, and when I look at them all, it's like being given a gift to see the world through a child's eyes - even if it is low-res and fuzzy. This toy is definitely a winner in my book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My two year old loves it, September 12, 2008
This turned out to be one of the best toy purchases I've made. My two year old son doesn't have a lot of interest in "toys"; instead he prefers the real (and often breakable) thing. Here we have the best of both worlds: a working digital camera that's stood up to the best my son can do. It's the most fun when there are two kids: they can run around taking pictures of each other going "Say cheese!" It's fun to look at the pictures and send them to the grandparents.

It almost goes without saying the picture quality is poor, however if you read the manual you can increase the quality pretty easily. Copying pictures off the camera is easy: just plug a USB cable into the camera and your computer (no extra software needed). Battery life has also proven to be good. I've had it about four months and only changed batteries once.

The only minor complaint I have: the button to take pictures is on the front which is a little awkward for small hands.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but they'll make it better, December 1, 2006
By C. Wyffels (Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The extra memory card that came with this camera was great. It holds over 200 pictures which can take an hour or so for my 4 and 1 year old to fill up. It is easy enough for my 1 year old to use for pictures but the delete button is a little too easy for him, that's probably why it's not recommended for that age. The quality of the pictures is low but that was listed on the box so I didn't expect much more. The only real problem that they need to fix is that the lens is pointed down and if the child uses the view finder, instead of the LCD screen, they will always cut off the top of the picture, usually the head. It took us a little while to teach our son to look at the screen, which is a little dark, but now his pictures are pretty good.
