As a long time RenFaire goer, I've got a large wardrobe full of various garb, much of which is made from expensive, thirsty leather. After years of trying to clean it the WRONG way, and damaging it even more, or finding items that had been mouldering in the cellar for years at a time, several friends and myself spent an entire day and a 32 oz bottle of NeatsFoot oil cleaning and treating all the leather items in the wardrobe from belts to scabbards to filthy leather boots. Needless to say, it worked like a charm! Even the oldest, dryest items that we thought were destined for the scrap bin were restored to almost newness with this product! Leather sword scabbards with MOLD growing on them and cracked, worn leather around the buckles was like new. And even as much as this dry, thirsty leather soaked up, a 32oz bottle went a LONG way. You can't top this stuff.

We live at 8200 ft. in the Colorado mountains. Our humidity is typically 10% so the leather sofa and chairs need extra conditioning. This oil really helps. But remember, it does darken your leather.

I've been using Fiebing Neatsfoot Oil for 40 years, mainly on shoes, but also on a leather couch and chairs, leather jackets, baseball gloves, and similar items. I have two pairs of Clark shoes that are 40 years old, on their third soles but still in great condition because of Neatsfoot Oil. I also do my wife's shoes, and did my kids until they went off to college. The oil not only makes leather more supple and extends it life, it also provides a significant degree of water protection - almost like water proofing but better since the leather still breathes. With baseball gloves, you don't need much at all, mainly in the crease. I've also used it for some older camping gear that had leather components, and ditto for antiques items. A 32 ounce container will go a long way. I've had my current 32 ounces for 10 years and there's still plenty left. I would say this has to rival duct tape as the all-time multi-use champion.

Product works fantastically well. It says to wipe away excess but my jackets and my wife's purse were so dry when I wiped it the rag was clean. Does darken colored leathers a shade darker but it says so on the box. I found that putting it in a spray bottle and spraying it on a rag helps keep me from spilling it or applying excessive amounts. A little goes a long way so far I have applied to three jackets two of my wife's purses and one of my mothers and numerous belts. There is a smell that goes away after a day it's not overpowering people that complain of a smell research what your getting it's made out of cow bones what did you expect...flowers? Again smell goes away after a day of application. My father in law has a nose like a bloodhound and he couldn't detect it the next day after application. Everything looks like new again nice and supple and it even adds some light luster to them. Best product for leather I have ever had period.

I recently purchased three leather jackets from eBay. Two of them were so dry I ripped a hole in one of them just putting it on. I did a ton of online research for a week trying to figure out what to use on them to soften them and bring them back to life...if indeed that was even possible.

I had made up my mind after reading many online reviews and threads on various forums that pure neatsfoot was definitely what I needed, but I was told by a local leather professional to NEVER under any circumstance put neatsfoot oil on leather jackets as it would ruin them and render them almost unwearable, and instead use Fiebings 4 way leather conditioner.

So as instructed by this professional leather cleaner/dealer I bought a bottle of the 4 way and applied an application every night for a week. ZERO change ...I mean it did absolutely nothing positive for the jackets and instead made them look waxy and even drier than before!

So, I decided to buy a can of Fiebings neatsfoot oil against the professional advice and experiment with it on the jacket I ripped a hole in. After the first application it was very clear to me that it was working. I applied it very liberally to the jacket for 6 nights in a row and it just drank it up like a sponge. After letting it dry for an hour or so I never had to wipe off any excess. It turned the dry & lifeless, stiff as a board, cracked, garbage can worthy jacket into my favorite leather jacket that I own! Super soft and supple, simply amazing. I'm still stunned at how well it worked.

As a side note, I got the oil all over the black lining and it did not stain it at all.

Moral of the story: Go with your gut, professionals don't always know what the hell they're talking about. I highly recommend pure neatsfoot oil on all dark leather. Make sure that you use PURE neatsfoot oil as the compound neatsfoot smells like motor oil! Pure neatsfoot has a rather pleasant leathery smell that fades with a little time.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the neatsfoot oil. I may have ordered way too much. The saddle that I was trying to clean up, is pliable again. I used maybe two ounces of the product and got the result I wanted.
