Soundtrack to the award-winning documentary featuring music composed by Michael Nyman. The documentary film picked up two awards in two categories at the world's hippest film festival, Sundance 2008. The film tells the story of French daredevil Philippe Petit's daring plan to walk the high-wire between New York's Twin Towers in 1974. Film-maker James Marsh brilliantly matches his images to the hypnotic and propulsive music of English minimalist composer Michael Nyman, including pieces from Nyman's masterpiece, La travers‚e de Paris, and his collaborations with Peter Greenaway. It's a sublime choice that lifts Man on Wire to rare movie-watching giddiness. The film scooped both the World Cinema Audience Award and Documentary & World Cinema Jury Prize at this year's festival.

I saw "Man on Wire" and really enjoyed the music from the movie. My husband liked it as well, so I bought him the CD as a gift. The original music by Michael Nyman is very good. I was disappointed, however, that not all of the music used in the movie was on the soundtrack. (All of Michael Nyman's music is on the CD, just not all of the other pieces.)

Still, I would highly recommend this CD. I find myself listening to it several times a week while I work around the house. I find that it is easy to listen to and it reminds me of the movie (on of my favorites!).

I love this album. Michael Nyman's music never fails to move me. For those who haven't heard much of his work, try out the track Drowning by Number 2 or Trysting Fields / Sheep n' Tides, and I think you'll have a good idea of what you are in for. Great songs, great soundtrack - I'm off to watch the movie!
