The flavor of this capsule was bitter, and strong, but not in a good way. It was dry and old tasting, not at all fresh.
It's unfortunate because I've only enjoyed a couple of the capsules I've tried. Most just don't taste fresh. I am not sure if it's the coffee used, the capsule itself not being airtight, or a combination.
This is just not good espresso but it will do in a pinch if you need to get a quick jolt of caffeine, it just isn't very enjoyable.

Typically, I'm not a straight-up espresso drinker and prefer my espresso in mixed drinks. I tried using this capsule to "goose" some of the other flavors by adding an extra espresso shot but was not pleased with the results.
On its own, though, the flavor of the espresso is rich and dark, like I would expect. One complaint from these capsules, though, is that I had some large granules drip through.
Overall, an unremarkable flavor, though certainly not awful...
3/5.

In every sense, this is a fine quality espresso. I was surprised that Nestle could prepackage espresso in a capsule yet retain all of the desirable characteristics of a good espresso. The espresso is strong yet smooth, sweet without bitterness, and had nice thick crema. I haven't enjoyed an espresso this good in a long time, but this was a pleasure to sip.
I've been a fan of Green Mountain Coffee Extra Bold Espresso Blend, but I have to admit that the Dolce Gusto Espresso wins this battle.
This would also make a nice base for homemade coffee beverages. At 44 cents per serving, this is not only inexpensive but makes a nice afternoon pick-me-up drink.
