One of the funniest little-known movies of all time. All-star case, quirky, sophisticated humor blends with slapstick effortlessly.

Every time I watch this movie, it makes me happy! Maybe it's the fact it's that time in movie history depicted, the soundtrack or the humor - but the combination is so wonderful & delightful. Stanley Tucci & Oliver Platt's relationship as struggling actors trying to navigate the circumstances thrown their way makes you feel both sorry for them & so happy that you are there to witness the confusion & chaos that ensues. All the women are funny & look so amazing in this movie! Isabella Rossellini is just so classically beautiful & tragic in her role. Yet you'll never know until she's unmasked! Allison Janey, Lilli Taylor, Hope Davis, Elizabeth Bracco & Dana Ivey are so funny in their roles. I think it's a great ensemble piece that Mr. Tucci has put together. I laughed so hard every time Steve Buscemi is on the screen as Happy & Tony Shalhoub's calm to crazy transition is too much! I think my favorite character is Billy Connolly - just so comfortable in making everyone feel just a little awkward each time he's around. And of course, Alfred Molina, Campbell Scott & Richard Jenkins are always great when they are playing in comedies. Such great performances! I was unfamiliar with the actors who played Marco & the Shiek but both added to the greatness & fun of this movie. Also, the Woody Allen cameo was so hysterical! I don't if Stanley Tucci planning on directing anymore comedies but he definitely should think about doing it along with his acting. And the dance scene during the credits it worth watching to the very end! I honestly believed they we all having a great time during the filming.

I just caught this movie on Netflix, and I was under the spell right away, with it's Jacques Tati like opening.
Everything is right in this move. The music, the tone, the acting and rich cast... everything.

What makes this movie one I wanted to write about is the fact that where most movies lose some wind as the story progresses, this one gets better and better!
It reminded me of Peter Sellers' classic "The Party" -- except that here, Tucci is not only acting, but is the writer and director of this pearl.

I was already a die-hard fan of Stanley Tucci. This movie just blew me away, and I'm still chuckling as I write this.
Enjoy! :D

A slower warmup opening than I would write, but stick with it. Once the out of luck actors, Arthur and Maurice (Stanley Tucci and Oliver Platt), get to witness a horrible version on Hamlet on Broadway, this movie slips into high gear and the fun is non-stop after that. Offbeat and great characters throughout -played by Woody Allen, Alfred Molina, Lili Taylor, Tony Shalhoub, Isabella Rossellini and Steve Buscemi, among others. One of my favorites.
