Great Clearance Deal Laptop, January 15, 2009
This review is from: HP Compaq 6735s KS115UT 15.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz AMD Sempron SI-40 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Vista Basic) (Personal Computers)
I bought 5 of these laptops from Tiger Direct at $410 to $430 each and may buy 8 to 12 more while they are still available on clearance. These laptops originally sold for $800 just 6 months ago.
The reason these laptops are on clearance is that they are preloaded with Windows Vista, which Microsoft has announced it is replacing with Windows 7 later this year, given the overwhelming rejection of Vista. Manufacturers need to get rid of their Vista based computers soon as they will be hard to sell once Vista is replaced later this year by Windows 7. We have already installed Windows 7 beta on ours.
We found that with Windows Vista these laptops ran a bit slow and took a long time to boot and shut down (over 2 minutes). You can keep Vista and cure that by upgrading the RAM to 4 GB instead of the 1 GB preinstalled. But with Windows 7 beta they run super fast. Other testers have reached similar conclusions, see http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/operatingsystems/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=212900741
We highly recommend this laptop but cannot give it 5 stars due to its use of the soon to be obsolete Vista. So we give it 4 stars. Oh, in response to the other reviewers questions, this laptop has a built in 1.3 megapixel webcam at the top of the screen, no built in bluetooth.

Servicable for business, not so much for personal., February 16, 2009
This review is from: HP Compaq 6735s KS115UT 15.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz AMD Sempron SI-40 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, Vista Basic) (Personal Computers)
The body is sleek, the weight is light, the fan is loud. Oh so loud. When booting up and occasionally when in use and even idle, the very loud fan kicks in, hindering to a fair extent the ability to listen to music or movies on the not so robust speakers. I have run both Vista and ubuntu on this machine, and while ubuntu loads fast, trying to get all the drivers aligned for this guy was no picnic. For Vista, it comes with a lot of bloatware. But for the price it is a well-performing machine properly tuned, if you don't mind the loud fan and the lackluster speakers. And it looks really good. The battery life is also a disappointment for a machine in this day and age. I'm lucky to get 1.5 hours out of it.

Junk., June 12, 2009

Im always glad to see computer makers get saved when on the brink of closure but this hybrid model is a cheap, defective Compaq computer with a HP-Compaq logo. Remember that unreliable compaq, well it's still unreliable just with a HP screen.
