Product Description

Product Description

Ultra compact (finger length), dual-output LED flashlight with extended runtime and tactical-level output. The E1B was developed as an everyday-carry flashlight for undercover officers and as a backup light for patrol officers but it's also ideal for outdoor, self-defense, and everyday use by civilians. The Backup features a virtually indestructible, electronically regulated light emitting diode (LED) that, on its "high" setting, produces a smooth, tactical-level beam (enough light to temporarily overwhelm the night-adapted vision of an aggressor) with four times the output, of a two-D-cell flashlight. And it continues generating tactical-light levels for 1.3 hours on a single battery. On its "low" setting, the E1B generates five lumens of light that's perfect for reading a map, checking an ID, or navigating a dark pathway, and generates useful light levels for 37 hours. And the E1B's click-on/off tailcap is programmed to instantly deliver maximum output when its pushbutton is depressed, a critical feature in law enforcement and tactical applications where a lot of light is frequently needed immediately. Rounding out this flashlight's features are its unique "melted" styling no knurling or sharp edges to catch on clothing and two-way pocket clip, which lets a user carry the Backup bezel up or down, whichever he or she prefers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well designed, compact, powerful flashlight, July 18, 2009

I really like this flashlight. It is very well made and perfect for backup or for a compact, small main unit. Even though I saw pictures of this flashlight I was surprised at it's size when I saw it. Because of that I thought that this video review would give viewers a "virtual" hands-on demonstration of this unique little flashlight.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES, July 30, 2008
It's true, good things do come in small packages. The E1b "Backup" by Surefire is the perfect example of this.

This light is perhaps my favorite light of all of them, and trust me.. I own a very varied collection of flashlights. These are some awesome features of the "Backup:"

1. Very small. Fits in the palm of your hand. Rides in your pant pocket and you won't even notice it's there until you reach for it. It has a 2-way pocket clip. Carry it bezel up or bezel down, take your pick.

2. 80 lumens on tactical level of light, or 5 lumens for prolonged battery duration. Although it is rated at 80 lumens, this little light ourperforms my Fenix P3D, which is rated at a maximum of 215 lumens. It outperforms my Blackhawk Gladius. It outperforms my Streamlight Stinger. ****UPDATE: I just purchased the Surefire 6p LED and G3 LED, both also rated at 80 lumens, and the E1B outshines them both, and it has a better "throw." Maybe Surefire should re-classify the E1B as having more than 80 lumens?

3. Despite being an LED light, the beam travels very far, and it provides an intense bright circle of light at the middle, with a generously wide and bright peripheral illumination area.

4. Runs on a single CR123a battery. This means you can ditch your xenon lights and save all the batteries they eat up for this little guy.

5. Great reflector and super clear lens.

6. It has a lockout feature on the tactical tailcap so that you won't accidentally drain the battery if it turns on without you noticing.

7. Perfect for self-defense (can be used to blind an oponent, and if things get really rough you can use it to put some extra weight on your closed fist and hammer in a stronger punch), great for undercover police officers, backup light for regular police officers, perfect for civilian use due to its small size, good for disasters, and roadside emergencies.

This is pretty much the all around flashlight. You won't really need another flashlight once you buy this one. I think it's definitely worth the price. And if you're good at shopping for bargains, I'm sure if you look hard enough you could find it for under $100 just like I did.

Now you might be wondering what the cons of this light are. What blemishes does it have? The answer is none. This light is perfect. Perhaps the only bad thing is the price, but that's nothing new considering it is a Surefire after all. Trust me, it's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best in its class, November 14, 2008
By A photographer (Planet Earth) - See all my reviews
I carry one of these little Surefire's daily and use it so much it's hard to imagine how I got by without it. Yes, it's hard to justify spending $110 to $149 (the range of prices I've seen advertised) for a flashlight. You either have to be a flashlight nut like me or have a specific purpose for such a light.

Surefire has the reputation of making dependable and durable lights, prized by military, law enforcement and emergency personnel. These people require lights that are pretty much 100% reliable. Surefire has a great warranty and their lights are over-engineered like mad. That's a lot of what you pay for when you buy a Surefire flashlight.

This particular light is small but powerful. It uses optics to concentrate the beam. I don't know how lumens are measured or any of the technical stuff involved. I have several flashlights that advertise more than the 80 lumens Surefire claims for this light. But only a couple of them actually put out a beam as bright as the E1b on the high setting. On the low setting, you get a very useful amount of light about equivalent to an LED Mini Maglite. It is somewhat fiddley to get to the low setting--you have to go through the high setting first. You will eventually work out how you will deal with this and it will soon cease to be an issue.

Other than the price, this is about the perfect light for everyday use. As a lower priced alternative, you might want to check out the Fenix PD20. It has more settings and it's even smaller than the E1b. I have both but the Surefire is in my pocket almost all the time.
