Editorial Reviews

Review

This movie has a clown wielding a three-pronged blade that does some serious damage, as well as some hot clown-on-clown killing action (quick, somebody call "Clowns Gone Wild") as though the filmmakers learned how to work within their low budget to make their gore scenes creepy and effective. There's also a bit of added human drama, with the head detective getting some troubling news at the beginning of the movie that affects his decision making throughout the rest of the film. A sub plot involving a sleazy orderly at the hospital who helped Shivers and his clown gang escape also adds an interesting twist. With more killer clown action, more gore, a great conclusion, and a stalk-and-slash sequence in Lynn's house that gave me chills, there's a lot to love about this movie. --Cinema-Crazed

Review

The acting is only equaled by the pacing in Clowns 2 because, man, this flick moves. The original Clowns clocked in at 106 minutes (the limited edition at 114), and felt a little bloated. Clowns 2 runs at a leaner 102 minutes, and it has none of the fatness of its predecessor. The film is a freight train, in no uncertain terms greatly aided by the fantastic and I really do mean fantastic score by Chad Seiter. Kangas' movies have always had great scores, and Seiter also did the music for Clowns, but here he outdoes himself. The last 20 minutes are packed with tension, atmosphere and action, and Seiter's score grabs you, straps you down and forces you in for the duration. Not that I saw anyone complaining. The buildup to those last 20 minutes is a great ride, too. The film has at least four decapitations and one body cut clean in half. Not to mention an axe to the eye, the face and the shoulder. Clowns 2 serves up a platter of gore, grue, mayhem and madness, and when you think you've had your fill, another plate is thrust in front of you. Good times, indeed. Sadly, though, there is one problem I have with the film: The ending. It's a cheat. It's a bummer that I can't tell you why it's a cheat, because it would be a major spoiler, but it's a cheat nonetheless. And it hurts the film, some. You have this fantastic buildup, only to have an unsatisfying ending somewhat like Haute Tension (and, no, it doesn't end like that). The ending is certainly not as bad as the mess that is Tension, but I did feel almost as unsatisfied. However, after speaking with Kangas recently, he has informed me he has changed the ending. If it comes off as he explained, well, now we're talking. Hell, I can't wait to see it again. With Fear of Clowns 2, Kevin Kangas has pulled off something that is pretty damn hard to do he made a sequel that is better than the original. Dang right. I liked Fear of Clowns, but Fear of Clowns 2 smokes it. It's got more action, more tension, stronger acting and a killer score. And if one were to judge by the applause and hoots and hollers from the audience, he's got himself a winner. --Horrortalk

4.0 out of 5 stars You can never have too many killer clowns..., April 1, 2010

For those seeking a fun indie horror film and a fair share of clown-induced violence, look no further. Fear of Clowns 2 has a lighthearted feel with some enjoyable humor and a whole lot of beheadings via a shirtless muscle clown wielding a medieval battle ax. Yes, the idea is ridiculous, but this film stays grounded with sympathetic characters and some actually scary villains. Don't be scared off if you hated Fear of Clowns 1. The sequel is a HUGE improvement with a tighter story, better acting, and genuine tension. Also, explosions and boobs, which should make a lot of people happy. An enjoyable example of good low budget horror having fun.

The movie was very good in its special effects. The clowns are really crazy and kill for no reason. The main clown is more ov a Vin Diesel type who has no spoken lines only grunts. What a waste of a good actor. I bought the film to see an actress who I like alot, Savannah Costello who played the girl who enticed the two boys into the barn for sex and got cut in half by the clown with an axe. She played the naked dead girl in carver but had no spoken lines. her next film is about Hugh Heffner and she plays his wife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Above Par B-Movie Horror, February 7, 2010
By Mike D (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fear of Clowns 2 Limited Edition (DVD)
Having not been a fan of the first Clowns movie I figured $2.99 wasn't too much to drop to find out if this one was better.

Better? Absolutely. I'm not sure what the 1-star review above is talking about, maybe the first film, but this film has 3 clowns and a hefty body count. Yeah, it's very low budget but compared to the first Clowns(and other Clown horror like SICK) this is good fun.

Basic story is that the main clown escapes from the asylum with 2 other nutsos who also decide to dress like clowns. Why? I dunno but I'd guess it because they're NUTSO.

They go after the girl from the first movie who needs to start getting naked in these movies(my only complaint), but the detective from the first film decides he's gonna kill the clown instead of arresting him. And he's got some merc buddies to help him do the job.

Beheadings galore, an awesome naked-girl chopped in half(gotta see it! Awesome!), and people shooting at clowns! How can you not like that?

I'd eventually get the dvd if they put a making of on it.
