Product Description

Product Description

he NatureMill automatic composter takes the fuss out of composting. A motor mixes and grinds the compost, while an air pump provides optimal oxygen flow, and the air filter removes any trash odors. Add food waste at any time, on any day. Compost up to 120 lbs per month and ideal for 1-4 people. A fresh batch of compost is ready every two weeks, depending on actual usage. Unlike a typical compost bin or compost tumbler or worm bin, NatureMill can compost meat, fish, and dairy items due to the high internal temperatures. Avoid steak bones, peach pits, and other hard items. Made from recycled and recyclable plastic. Uses just 50 cents of electricity per month. 1 Year Warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really Great way to Compost, July 23, 2010
This review is from: PRO XE Slate Composter by NatureMill
I have used a number of different compost machines over the years. Trust me - this one is the best. All the others just sit there taking up space in your back yard while they rot away. This one actually works and you can use it indoors if you want (or outdoors because I think it is waterproof and insulated). The thought of everything. It definitely does NOT smell if you use it right. Some people don't read instructions which is their problem, not the machines. It looks nice to and has won a number of green design awards. This thing is going to be everywhere some day if they can just get the price down a little!

My one complaint is that it is very small - too small for yard debris so I still need to keep an outdoor compost pile for yard debris. But I only do yard work once in a while so that is not a problem - the food all fits into the Mill which is the convenient part of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Composts just as promised, April 12, 2010

This is a very well-designed composter that is compact. I chose this one because you didn't need to turn it manually and also because it breaks down food wastes more quickly than other composters (due to the constant internal temp).

The minuses are that it is expensive, but it is well designed and alot of thought went into the construction and energy conservation. For us, the smell is strong enough to notice, so we keep it outside. (some people find NO smell). The unit had no trouble going through a Minnesota winter. We have it next to the house on a concrete slab, so it is moderately protected from the elements.

You also do need to add a dry material, like sawdust regularly. This is a little hassle for us, but I believe that all composters need this material, so you would need to do this no matter which one you chose.

I got a composter because I hate throwing away things that can decompose naturally. I no longer live near a place I can toss out my veggie scraps (without the neighbors giving me dirty looks) and then wound up with a $300 plumber bill after I clogged my pipes from using the garbage disposal on our family's food wastes. oops! With the composter I rarely use the disposal now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat smelly, April 16, 2010
By HSmamma (Nebraska) - See all my reviews
This review is from: PRO XE Slate Composter by NatureMill
We bought this to add to our kitchen remodel. We even had a dedicated electrical outlet installed under the prep area. Unfortunately, it will NOT be living there. We have noticed a smell. When I come home to a closed up house I want to smell my essential oils in a diffuser, or dinner in the crock-pot; NOT COMPOST!! I love the way it works, and we follow the directions precisely when it comes to adding sawdust and baking soda. It makes fabulous compost! Regardless, our home was smelling just like the feed store at the edge of town: earthy, and a little icky-sweet. I like the feed store, but not in my kitchen. We haven't decided if it's going to stay outside, or be put in the garage which is not attached :( . Either way, it's not the convenience we were looking forward to if we have to don our snow gear to compost in the winter. I'm only giving 3 stars because one of the main advertising points is "no odor". There is odor--always; not just when it's been opened. I suppose it's just a personal issue as to whether or not it bothers you.
