Product Description

This new Litepanels Micro is a great addition to your video or still camera. Utilizing color corrected LEDs, you are assured a even balanced output for perfect video or images every time. This LED technology runs cool yet still gives a bright soft light, perfect in all situations. Unlike flash, this continuous light allows you to see exactly how your lighting looks at all times taking the guess work out of set ups. A built in filter holder allows for additional diffusion or color correction filters for special effects. 4 AA batteries are all that are needed to power this unit for up to 2 hours (alkaline) or a ac power supply is available when super long run times are needed. the built in foot fits in most camera and video accessory shoes for easy set up. A 1/4 -20 socket is also included for mounting on light stands or tripods. The on/off knob also has a dimming feature for the ultimate control of your output giving you a "key Light" or subtle fill effect to brighten the eyes. This lightweight, flicker free compact unit is the perfect choice for your camera bag.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate in Medium Cost Battery Powered On-Camera Lighting, June 5, 2008
This is a dynamite little package. In one test I did, it illuminated an entirely dark (as in no light at night) twelve foot square room adequately enough for good low-light shooting. With ambient light, it's great. It is lightweight especially with 4 disposable lithium AA batteries which last about 7 to 8 hours (4 for $10.00). The light is bright without the blinding glare of a single bulb and stays cool to the touch. There is no color shift when dimming the light. The movable frame that flips up and down is very flimsy so be careful with it. Mine easily comes off and I have had to tape the diffusor to the frame to keep it from falling out. But in all fairness, I rarely lift the frame so it is almost irrelevant. I use this light on a Panasonic DVX 100B with an external shotgun mic. My only real complaint is the knob that allows the light to move forward or backward is between the light mount and mic making it very difficult to adjust. It is challenging to tighten it enough by hand to avoid any movement so they have incorporated a slot in the knob so one can use a coin as a screwdriver for the final tightening. This is tough with the light still mounted on my camera. On cameras without an external mic, which is probably what this product was designed for, I don't think the knob position would be an issue. I still wish Lightpanels had put the knob on the opposite side or better yet, made it reversible. If not for that, I would give this gem five stars. I have reviewed some of Litepanels more expensive products at their showroom in Burbank, CA. All were terrific. They are a top flight company and I would give them five stars.

First, for about $25 worth of parts, this is quite a markup but that's the video world. It's a cool, lightweight source of even, balanced light, especially with the diffusion. It's great for fill and eye light, balanced for daylight. The flip down gel panel is nice but flimsy. The whole thing is flimsy but it does what it does well. The dimmer is nice. I tilts but I wish it would pan since I rarely have my subject centered. Now I use something like this to pan it: Hot Shoe Extension/Extender (20 cm)

This light is convenient, easy and compact the down side is it's a little weak. For example, in a completely dark room it works fine for interviews and lighting a subject up at close range but don't expect much more than that. So for the price I was expecting something that cast a little stronger light and was able to use the dimmer when I needed it.
