Elegant and Soulful

This is her first album and her amazing voice is singing standards, and favorites that will just take you to your favorite small supper club. I heard about her from a friend, who also introduce me to Blossom Dearie, Sophie Milman and Melody Gardot; there are definitely some similarities between all of these performer/songwriters. I bought this title because I heard her rendition of " [Just Like] Starting Over," which was written by John Lennon, on my subscription radio station. Her later albums have songs written by her. I was surprised to learn she had been a contestant on American Idol at the end of her teens; in an interview she said she didn't make it very far in this contest but learned what she needed to learn to be a good performer. Elegant and soulful. Don't let her pixie size and demeanor fool you, she has a dynamic voice.

Still her best.

This record has all the elements of a classic:
Superb, subdued production that accents the right elements, without bombast.
The selection of instrumentation makes it feel like you're in a small bar, drink in hand, enjoying an intimate performance...
The version of "Summer Time" is worth the price of the record.
Like so many artists, this - the First Record - remains her best work.

I love her voice

I love her voice. It has a strong jazz feel and transport one to a different place. It easy to get lost in the work day while listening. The whole CD takes you out of your place and brightens one's mood.

Kat Delivers

I bought this after hearing Kat perform on Austin City Limits. It has some sweet tunes, but It is not quite up to the calibre of "Way Down Low".

This is one of the best sounding albums I own. If you have a good home stereo this album will mesmerize you. Of course the content is great, it's Kat Edmonson, but man was this ever recorded, mixed and mastered perfectly. It's totally pop and click-free, and wow does this ever deliver in regards to sound quality. I just wish her latest album was available on vinyl, as this one got me hooked.

Take to the sky.

Kat Edmonson has a unique voice and interpretation of old songs and a gives a delightful interpretation of new songs. Her close to the mike intimacy is astounding. She is an artist who is not afraid to let her voice be natural and in so doing captures the hearts of her audience. I wish she had more cd's because we would be first in line to buy them. Her instrumentals are surprising and intriguing. We loved this.

Retro jazz

I am a huge Kat Edmonson fan, so when she goes deep into jazz for some retro covers I can appreciate. Some won't so listen twice and decide for yourself. I want her to cover Summertime again, but more from herself with her amazing gifts of heart, attitude and vocal delivery. Kat's an extremely intelligent artist.
