Great Kindle 2 case., March 22, 2009
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Smooth Mocha Brown
Just received this cover today (in purple, but same model), about 3 weeks after ordering from Amazon. Granted, it was ordered before the product was even complete so I was ok with the wait. It is very similar in look and feel to a Dooney and Bourke pocketbook if you are familiar with them. It has a great leather smell, just like a new purse. And the additional room on the binder side (meant for the e-Luminator light - sold separately) gives you a nice place to hold the cover with the Kindle attached.
I love the hinge system, one of the main reasons I bought it. Coming from the K1, the original case Amazon provided was functional but the Kindle always fell out. So when Amazon improved the hinge for the K2, I knew I would only buy a case that had that feature. One word of note, I initially did not "lock" the K2 in the new m-edge case correctly and it almost fell out when I shook it (over a sofa) to test the support. Luckily the two straps on the top right and bottom right held it from falling. Then I discovered I had not closed the hinge enough and made sure the top hinge was securely pushed upwards to "lock it". Installation instructions are not included with the case (weird) but are available from m-edge online. Amazon won't let me post the url, but if you go to the buymedge website you can view the installation intructions.
The look and feel of the case is very professional. I am very happy with this purchase and do not expect to be taking the Kindle out of it very often. The only little issue I have is that the tab is a bit too snug when it needs to be slid into the cover to close. A snap might have been a bit easier. Still not enough of a con to drop the rating. But the tab does tuck away easily so as not to interfere while reading, which is nice.

good quality but TOO HEAVY, July 8, 2009
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Smooth Mocha Brown
I concur with everyone else that the quality is great. The leather is beautiful and it is very durable. I had the same M-Edge cover for my K1, and got this for my K2. However, i'm returning because the same things taht bothered me with the k1 cover haunted me with this one:
1. It makes the kindle way too heavy
2. the leather closure insertion flap-thingy (very technical) would get in my way as i was reading because it would just hang there. Also, it wasnt the easiest to close. I wish it were a snap or a magnet closure.
Instead, i decided to get a neoprene sleeve and a semi-transparent silicone cover/screen protector. That way, the Kindle is LIGHT, yet protected and i can really enjoy the sexy shape of this machine, especially since it looks so much better than the k1. Although, i guess this is more of a preference thing.

Great product...until it cracks your Kindle, September 13, 2009
This review is from: M-Edge Prodigy Leather Kindle Jacket with Hinge (Fits 6" Display, 2nd Generation Kindle), Smooth Mocha Brown
We purchased our Kindle last spring before an extended trip, and three family members shared reading it at various times over the summer. We all liked the cover--the leather gave it a luxurious feel, and we felt like the Kindle was well protected, especially when our 12 year old was reading. A couple weeks ago I had the Kindle out to read, set it down on the bed to do something else, and when I came back awhile later, I was ready to start yelling at the kids. I was sure one of them had dropped it because I could see a visible crack in the white plastic frame on the lower left side of the Kindle. However, after closer examination, I realized the crack was being caused by the pressure of the lower hinge of the cover pushing upward. I quickly released the Kindle from the jacket and the plastic settled so the crack was difficult to see. Looking more carefully at the jacket construction, I understand why this happened. The metal hinges that catch the Kindle are extremely rigid and bent upwards. I wondered at first if we had bent the hinges slightly through use, but that metal would require a pair of pliers and quite a bit of force to bend it. I tried later to put the Kindle back in the jacket, thinking maybe it was just positioned incorrectly, but the crack was immediately visible and I was afraid it would completely ruin the Kindle if I left it. I'm left to conclude that this product is faulty, and now I have a cracked $[...] piece of electronic equipment and a $[...] of leather for which I have no use. I see on a previous review that Amazon has refused to honor warranty provisions. We bought the extended warranty, and haven't yet pursued our options for return/replacement of the cover and/or Kindle. I'm not optimistic, though.
