5.0 out of 5 stars Michael's Hilarious Antics Are Back..., March 14, 2009
By Amanda (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews

I think that this week's episode of The Office, "Golden Ticket," is the best episode so far this season. Instead of relying on soap opera-esque relationship escapades or Michael's troubled love life, we were treated to a healthy dose of what made The Office so incredibly hilarious in the first place: Michael's comedic, wild antics that somehow manage to work despite the high probably of them blowing up in his face.

"Golden Ticket" begins with Michael strolling into the office dressed as Willy Wonka (complete with top hat and cane) from the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Michael was inspired by the book's (and subsequent movie's) concept of golden tickets. In order to help Dunder-Mifflin's relationship with customers, Michael decides to place five golden tickets into random palettes of paper sold to clients. Each ticket is good for 10% all the recipient's purchases for one year.

The plan completely blows up in his face when the same client receives all five golden tickets...and they do not say "limit one per customer." Jim is unhappy because this means he will lose a considerable amount of sales for the year. The big boss from New Year comes to Scranton to discuss the golden tickets and Michael, fearing for his job, convinces Dwight to claim that the tickets were his idea and to take the fall for him.

In a great twist, it turns out that the tickets convinced the client to spend even more money at Dundler-Mifflin, and the boss was very happy with the results. Dwight, however, receives all the glory from the idea and is considered a "genius." Michael, of course, wants to take credit for the tickets, but Dwight doesn't want to give up the glory.

The plot was simple, but it was filled with perfectly time Office-style comedy, great interviews, and some of the pure hilarity that made this show so wonderful -no dramatic relationships or complicated rivalries...just pure funny.
