Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Tenth Year coud've been a lot stronger if that chick from One Tree Hill was never cast as the new District Attorney, the writers came to their senses and got rid of her halfway through the season. Stephanie March returned as Alexandra Cabot, glad to see her back - she is such a natural! Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni continue to impress me, two of the best actors on t.v. Some of the episodes were over-the-top especially that illegal tiger meat episode, what was that?! This show has become kind of campy the last couple of seasons, that can start to annoy loyal fans who have been with the show since the beginning. Good season but ditch the lame jokes.

What can I say. This show is still good to watch after ten seasons. It is still one of the best shows on TV today and will continue to watch it. This is a good season for those fans of SVU. Loved the last episode. Go get this dvd if you are a fan, you won't be disappointed.

With well-defined characters, many whom I feel I actually know, the excitement is more gripping as I follow them through the perils of tracking, chasing, apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of these "especially heinous crimes".
The season opener was one to 'take your breath away' with suspense. DON'T MISS IT!!

In the 1980's, Dick Wolf created a unique series about crime & consequence. In 1999, he created a series about police officers who have to deal with the most vial and perverse crimes in human nature. In 2008, Daniel Truly nearly ruins it. As a fan of SVU and SVU alone I would probably say it is worth. That is if you don't care about quality. It's like that there is no quality. There is just very little of it. Especially in the episodes written by Daniel Truly. You'll notice that in the episode Swing, Olivia mentions that her and Elliot have been partnered for 11 years. In the next episode(Lunacy) Elliot says they've been partnered for 10. That episode, which was written by Truly was one of the worst episodes ever. It wasn't believable, the guest stars weren't all that great and the "twists" were stupid. Other Truly written episodes were written especially for "Special Guests" and were written with too much nonsense like a guy who likes to bite on his fancy pen which his wife keeps in her purse or Olivia slapping Elliot or quickly assuming that amateur filmmakers on top of a building had anything to do with a dead body that they were very far away from.
I could go on and on with flaws in episodes or episodes that were completely 100% flawed, but I don't want to this review to be about complete disappointment. Season 10 is the lesser evil out of the three season i consider the worst season of SVU. In fact, watching it again helped me change my mind about certain episodes. I use to not like the episodes "Persona," "Stranger" and "Hothouse," but watching them again made me realize they weren't all that bad. In fact, being written by SVU veteran writers such as Amanda Green and Dawn DeNoon, they better be good episodes. There is still a lot of good in season 10.

There's a reason Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been around for ten seasons. If you haven't watched any of the other seasons before starting this one though, I would suggest you go start at the beginning. Sure you could probably watch a few of these with no problem, but the connection with the characters just wouldn't be there.

Law & Order SVU explores the cases that are the hardest to work. Child abuse, rape, elder abuse and other rough topics require a special sort of detective, which is where the SVU division comes in. Each of the episodes is a stand alone on its own (there are very few that are continuing story-lines) but the characters have some story arcs that go through the seasons (like Stabler's family life). The episodes in this season were good, SVU gets better or stays good with age apparently. There were a few stinkers, and I can't say that I enjoyed the last episode and what happens in it, but largely the episode pool had some interesting stories. A particularly interesting one would be "Confession" in which a teenage boy admits to being a pedophile and that he wants helps. "Retro" deals with untreated AIDS in children and the belief that it is not a disease. I didn't like the episode "Stranger" very much, in which an abducted girl returns to her family and not all is what it seems. It just didn't play out very realistically.

The characters are always well played. Hargitay as Dt. Benson and Meloni as Det. Stabler have good chemistry on scene. And Florek, who plays Captain Cragan has always been a favorite of mine. The other detectives played by Ice-T and Belzer get a little screentime in this season, but they always take a second seat to Hargitay and Meloni.

Love SVU, have all 10 seasons so far, I think that Novak should come back or else they should keep Cabot but really need to stop bringing in so many ADA's. Can't wait for season 11 to be out.

We are all familiar with the Law & Order SUV formula. It has been rigid from day one. We start with the sex crime being committed, then with the detectives working on it, to its being kicked over to the prosecutor for trial. This is often the show's strength but also its weakness. We know the formula so well that we're getting inured to it. I can consult my watch to see exactly where we should be in each show. I don't think there is much that can be done about this. Every show has a finite life span and the most any seem to eke out is ten or eleven seasons. And those are the very best shows ever! So I suspect that we are nearing the end with this series. I still enjoy the detectives and their cases and I think the actors do a fine job. I would not replace anyone who is on the show. However, week after week with the same formula cannot help but get a bit tedious after ten years, especially with so many fresh and new series coming to the fore which are less formulaic. I'm still watching but I'm also a little less enthusiastic each and every time I tune in. Probably this tenth series was every bit as good as the prior nine but its rigid formula over all that time is tiresome.
