The piano chords that begin this song are haunting and ominous, and lead you into Regina Spektor offering lyrics that carry the same characteristics.

She illustrates situations that will be universally recognized as leading us to prayer and reflections on the nature of divinity (us turning to prayer and divinity (beginning with: "No one laughs at God in a hospital | No one laughs at God in a war } No one's laughing at God | When they're starving or freezing or so very poor"; the ones that follow later are equally effective).

I don't believe this song is anti-God, but later it includes elements that are anti-religious ("God could be funny | When told he'll give you money in just the right way").

After the somber beginning, Spektor introduces a more pop-infused melody that belies the seriousness of the song's themes.

If you remember the first time you heard Joan Osborne explore God in "One of Us"", you can expect a similar response to this bold exploration of faith and religion that strays widely from the safe and banal offerings that mark much of contemporary music.

Listen once...and you'll listen over and over as you wrestle with it's true message.

Ok, I heard this song on Pandora and had to go download it. At first I wasn't sure what the lyrics were, but after looking them up I thought this song was even more awesome. Her voice is haunting and almost cheerful at the same time. I suggest everyone hear this song,

Not an overly religious person or any such, but this song emotionally effected me upon listening to it. For me, that's saying something.
