Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Sonos CR200 Controller - Instantly Access All Your Music and Rooms at the Touch of a Finger

The Sonos CR200 Controller gives you instant, wireless access to all your musics and all your rooms at the touch of a finger. The full-color VGA display, ultra-responsive touch screen and dedicated buttons make it a joy to use. And it's 100% dedicated to multi-room music control -- pick it up or touch the screen and it's ready to go. With the CR200 Controller in hand, you can quickly find and play music from your personal music library, Internet radio and the most popular online music services. Browse through albums and stations with a flick of the finger or search for your favorites by typing on the on-screen keyboard. Then simply touch to play. You can play the same song in every room or different songs in different rooms with ease.

SonosNet ensures that every CR200 Controller works wirelessly, all over the house, so you don't have to run back and forth to your computer. Instead, you can choose exactly whot to play and where to play it from anywhere -- sitting on the couch or cooking in the kitchen. Controllers aren't tied to a specific ZonePlayer, so you can use any Controller to control the music -- and the volume -- in all of your rooms. And there's practically no limit to how many Controllers you can have -- one for every room, floor or music lover in your house. The Sonos CR200 also includes a Charging Cradle so it's always powered up and easy to find.

The ergonomic and stylish Sonos Controller charges via an included charging cradle. View larger.

The Controller is designed to be a part of a complete Sonos Digital Music System. Setup is easy, too. See how it works.

Quickly set listening characteristics for every ZonePlayer. View larger.
The CR200 works in tandem with both of the Sonos ZonePlayers -- the ZonePlayer ZP120 or ZonePlayer ZP90 -- to control digital music throughout your home. In fact, you can use up to 32 controllers for each ZonePlayer. With multiple controller functionality, Sonos brings digital music control to every room and floor in your house.

Browsing and Queuing
Browse your digital music collection by artist, album, genre, track, name, composer, or even playlist. The CR200 also empowers you to queue the right tunes for the right moment -- with this controller you can build, edit, and save playlists right from the palm of your hand. Of course, what you may want to hear might differ from your spouse working upstairs. Sonos has covered all the angles so you can have multiple music queues. Use any Controller to build a separate queue of music to play in each zone or a group of zones throughout your house. If you desire, you can pipe classical music into the kitchen while there's a rock opera blasting on the back porch -- Sonos gives you the tools to make music happen where you want to hear it.

The Screen and Controls
The high-resolution, 3.5-inch LCD with adjustable LED backlighting color screen makes everything on the screen bright and easy-to-see, including full-color album artwork, if available. You can view full-screen or thumbnail views of album art, plus detailed track information from this palm-sized device. Sonos designed the CR200 with an adjustable backlit screen and buttons, which makes it easy to operate in low-light conditions. You can even adjust the brightness of the LCD and buttons to suit your style or extend the battery life. The scroll wheel makes it easy to flip through large music collections and make selections, or you can power scroll by letters to jump ahead to find an artist, album, or track.

The Controller's button layout is intuitive and provides complete music management and control. Two buttons are dedicated to providing direct access to the Controller's main menus -- Music and Zones -- for quick, snappy control. The CR200 is also designed to conserve battery life with a movement sensor that automatically turns the Controller on when you pick it up, and a light sensor that only turns on backlighting when it is needed.

Sonos In Depth
The CR200 is just one part of a complete Sonos Digital Music System. To make your system complete, you'll also need a Sonos ZonePlayer. With the ZonePlayers in the rooms of your choice, you can play the same song in different rooms, or different songs in different rooms. You can have up to 32 Sonos ZonePlayers throughout your house -- from the bedroom to the backyard. Connect your first ZonePlayer to your router and all the others work wirelessly. Choose between the ZP90, which connects directly to your home theater or stereo, or the ZP120, which features its own built-in amplifier. Or better yet, choose both for the ultimate in multi-room music.

With the CR200 in hand, you'll have instant access to all your digital music, plus Internet radio, subscriptions to online audio services, and even music from your favorite CD or MP3 player. Turn off the upstairs music while you're downstairs. Change the song in the kitchen from the den. To start listening, just pick a room, pick a song, and hit play.

If you're just getting started with your Sonos system, you'll want to check out Sonos' ZP90 and ZP120 Digital Music System Bundles, which combine two ZP90 or ZP120 units respectively with a Sonos Controller. The bundles offer an easy, economical way to get in on the Sonos action. Then, when you're ready to expand you can purchase a ZP90 or ZP120 for more rooms in your home.

If you choose to extend your system with a ZP120 you can use your own speakers with it, or connect a pair of Sonos SP100 Loudspeakers, which are aesthetically and acoustically designed to look great with your Sonos Digital Music System.

Complete Your Sonos Setup with Select Accessories (sold separately)

Want to get the most out of your Sonos system? Add to the BU250 bundle with these accessories (sold separately) to expand your music coverage throughout the home.

  • Sonos ZonePlayer 120--The ZP120’s state-of the-art digital amplifier delivers audiophile-quality sound to any room. The energy-efficient Class D amplifier provides 55W per channel of power with a THD+N <.02% for excellent audio quality playback — without hisses, crackles or hums. And because the amplifier is built in, you won’t need to connect to a stereo to play your music, making it the easiest way to add a room to your Sonos system. Just plug it in, connect to speakers and enjoy.
  • Sonos ZonePlayer 90--Just connect the ZP90 to any amplified audio device in any room and add a room to your Sonos system. The ZP90’s digital and analog outputs deliver superior sound to every room. And with the ZP90’s superior wireless range, no room is out of reach. The ZP90 is super small, so it will fit just about anywhere.
  • Sonos CR200 Controller--Add Controllers to your Sonos system to let all the music lovers in your home in on the fun. The CR200 has a 3.5-inch color LCD screen with adjustable LED backlighting. Just pick a room, pick a song and hit play. Use search to find your favorites, and quickly link and unlink zones to play the same song in every room or different songs in different rooms. Controllers aren’t tied to a specific ZonePlayer, so you can use any Controller to control the music and the volume in any or all rooms. And there’s practically no limit to how many Controllers you can have--one for every room, floor or music lover in your house.
  • Sonos ZoneBridge--The Sonos ZoneBridge makes setting up an all-wireless Sonos system wonderfully fast…and easy. Although it doesn't play music like a ZonePlayer, it's a cost-effective way to extend your SonosNet network range. Instead of using a ZonePlayer, simply connect the ZoneBridge to your router to instantly activate the SonosNet wireless mesh network. It’s the ideal solution if your house doesn’t have Ethernet wiring or your router is in a room where you don’t want music. And with a two-port Ethernet switch, it also brings standard Internet connectivity to your set-top box, DVR, PC, game console, or NAS drive.
  • Sonos S5 ZonePlayer--The Sonos ZonePlayer S5 is a high-performance wireless music system with 5 speakers powered by 5 dedicated digital amplifiers, all in a compact single cabinet. With 2 tweeters, 2 mid-range drivers and 1 subwoofer, the S5 delivers crystal-clear, room-filling sound that rivals much larger, more complicated audio equipment. With the S5 you can quickly add a room of music anywhere you want — simply plug it in and enjoy. And thanks to the S5’s superior wireless range, no room is out of reach.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Wondrous, September 19, 2009
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Been using my CR200 for about 3 weeks and it has been a joy.

Compared to the original CR100 (which itself seemed fabulous when first received) the CR200 is from a different planet. It's much smaller, lighter, and the screen is bigger and brighter. I am not sure I would pay to upgrade for those benefits alone however.

The real advance is in the search functionality. Gone is the ipod style scroll-wheel with the tedious onscreen keyboard and in is a full touch sensitive on screen keyboard. Once you get used to it (it takes a little practice) the difference is night and day. If you have a large music collection, or especially if you use Napster or Rhapsody, searching using the CR200 is a joyous experience. Not only is the input vastly quicker now that you can type, but the search itself is predictive such that when you type "depe", for example, Depeche Mode will already be on screen vying for your attention with DePedro. The combination of vastly faster typing combined with the improved search makes the search experience on the old CR100 feel like wading through cement in comparison.

Rhapsody plus the CR200 really is a wondrous thing, it really makes searching for music a joyful experience. I frequently have to stop myself squealing with delight.

So, if the CR200 vs. CR100 = a no brainer, how about vs. an iPod touch or iPhone? My experience using the Ipod application is limited to about 5 minutes. My reasons for preferring the CR200 were twofold: 1. I really value the speed of the search experience - having to wake up my iPod, load the app etc was a trifle unappealing. Furthermore, I have a big house with lots of sonos players in far flung corners (like the basement) and I really wanted my remote to work on the Sonos Mesh as opposed to wifi (which the iPod uses). These are perhaps not big reasons, and if you already have a suitable touch or iPhone it may well not be worth the upgrade. As irrational as it may be though, I just wanted a device built from the ground up for Sonos rather than an apple product I could dumb down to do (almost) as good a job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big improvement on controller, December 30, 2009
By KRS10 (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We've been Sonos users since 2007 and have two of the original remotes. We bought one of the new remotes and it's a big improvement. Touchscreen navigation with an iPhone-like scroll you control with a flip of your finger. Search functionality is a million times better. The only thing I'd add to a Sonos wishlist is the ability for a user to make a custom screen that pushes all of our favorites into one category, so things like our local NPR station are just one click away instead of three or four. But this is splitting hairs. We love our Sonos and use the system constantly, from streaming radio to playing entire albums via Rhapsody, or even podcasts downloaded via iTunes. It rocks.

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy my 6 year old uses it..., December 15, 2009

The Sonos system works perfectly, as expected, right out of the box. I've been trying for a long time to manage a digital music collection accross multiple computers/devices, and this solves all the problems. In fact, when combined with a Rhapsody and or Pandora account, this system will change the way you purchase music. No need to buy, when you can simply "rent", with access to all forms of music, new and old, punk to classical, even foreign language.

The ease of setting up a perfectly synced, multiroom system that performs as advertised is worth the premium price. And the CR200 controller is a must to do some of the complicated searches, read reviews etc... and does so with a beautiful color display and touch screen interface. You can also use an old iphone with a free download app. The push button interface is easy to use, such that this is my daughters new favorite toy..searching for singing cat christmas records and other fun music online. Think of a kid show theme song or album...and you've got it in seconds playing throughout the house (or maybe just to the kids' rooms!)

Can't recommend enough, including the S5 stand alone unit which is perfect accoustic quality system for bedrooms, bathrooms, office, etc, with no wires or clutter. You will not be dissappointed...
