I bought these shoes for my wife and I for running and other outdoor activities because I naturally run up on my forefoot and I hate wearing shoes with all the extra padding that only adds bulk. We have had them for several months now and I no longer get shin splints when I run and find that I like walking around barefoot (real barefoot) much more now. Go easy when you start running in them though as you will get very sore because you will use many new muscles. Your calves will get especially sore but they will also look much sexier after you spend a few months running in these "shoes."

b.) one article in Men's Health on the Tarahumara Indians
c.) one book called Born to Run
d.) 2 months of barefoot exercises to build up the foot muscles and calluses
e.) 1 pair of vibram KSOs
f.) 2 weeks of burning calf muscles
g.) no more foot pain

I think the shoe companies and podiatrists might have a lot to learn.

Seriously, I think these may have cured me. Time will tell, but the results have been far more impressive than anything else I've tried. It takes a while to get the stride ride, but it makes running more fun - particularly in the grass.

I love this shoe for some reasons, and really dislike for other.

The positive part is that I can be almost barefoot without worrying about cutting myself or stepping on anything nasty in the city. Wearing these I often spontaneously feel like running, even though I never run unless I am playing a team sport. It really feels like my feet are liberated from some burden that used to be on them.

There are two things that I do not like about them. First of all is that they are too hot and stinky for summer wearing. I never-ever put on shoes in the summer and only wear sandals, and switching to these in July heat is a rather unpleasant experience, unpleasant enough that I barely wear them during the hot season. What I have left are the mild spring and autumn. The second drawback is that they are ridiculously slippery on hard, wet surfaces such as rock and fallen trees. When it is dry, they beat all of my other shoes for traction, but as soon as they are wet I have to avoid hard surfaces. Forget about walking a rail (if you are into that :) when it is raining, and if you have to cross a creek via a fallen tree be very cautious as well. My cheap Teva sandals perform much better in such conditions.

Nevertheless I think I will buy the Flow model for the cold season. As I understood from reviews, and from the fact that they are popular amongst people who deal with water, like sea-urchin gatherers in Hawaii (or so I was told by a witness), they are less slippery and provide good insulation.
