If you take the time to read some of the reviews online by various newspapers and publications you'll find that Jet are far from being "critics darlings". For some reason they are an easy target for critics. Not sure why but maybe it has something to do with their lyrics and/or subject matter not being particularily deep. Listen, these guys are no nonsense, old-school (w/ a modern twist), upbeat, fun rockers. They're not concerned w/ bringing listeners down (or themselves for that matter) or weighing heavenly on anyones mind. They just keep it simple, fun and rocking all throughout this new release. Even w/ the new things they've added, possibly to lighten things up a bit from their previous release "Shine On", they still have that old Jet attitude intact. All I know is when I crank this album in my car, it makes me feel good all over. I feel like I could take on the world. Isn't that what Rock 'N Roll is all about?!!!

At 40-years-old, I have finally come to terms w/ this fact: Critics SUCK!!!!! If you love Rock 'N Roll, what it truly stands for and the pure fun of it, I don't know how you don't like this album. I'm starting to wonder what kind of music these critics listen to.

Anyway, enough on that. Let's get to the subject at hand. The songs!!!

I heard "K.I.A" a couple of months back via the band's web site and pretty much took to it right away. Typical Jet hooks and attitude. "Beat on Repeat" is presently "on repeat" in my brain w/ it's instant hook and danceability. "She's a Genius" has one of the coolest little guitar riffs I have heard in years and is pure Jet fun. Take a look at their recent Late Show With David Letterman performance via their web site and you'll see what I mean. "17" is a bit different for them and quite interesting because of that fact, "Goodbye Hollywood" is a telling song about the trappings of the entertainment industry, "Walk" rock's w/ the old Jet swagger, and "Let Me Out" is almost a continuation of "Goodbye Hollywood" in that it revisits the same subject matter of that track. If "Start The Show" doesn't get your blood boiling than I don't know what will and finally, "Grudge" ends things on a nice note w/ it's low-key positive love song approach.

I can say with all honesty that I think this is Jet's best album yet. More complete than the other two and it never loses it's energy. Never gets boring at any point.

JET fans get ready for a long awaited injection of upbeat rock and roll. The new album Shaka Rock out August 25th is sure to be a summer highlight with strong infectious beat and catchy lyrics. The songs resonate optimism, shedding off the weight of the world to come alive with electric energy. The boys haven't forgotten how to have fun. Throw in a bit of classic rock, punk attitude, and straight forward rock and roll and what you get is the distinctive sound of JET.

Beat on Repeat's temperate vocals are backed by a solid beat full of "Yah Yah's." Akin to the feel of Beat on Repeat is Times Like This with great lyrics like "we feel the way we want to feel" and "everyone the same when they hit the floor" giving the song an upbeat message. Both make you want to jump up and dance, leaving you wanting more. La Di Da is sure to be a hit with fans and encompasses a pure JET atmosphere. Walk has the "wherewithal" to push you forward on a powerful wave of massive guitar and heavy drums.

Having heard Seventeen and Goodbye Hollywood live at the Key Club in Los Angeles along with She's a genius and K.I.A. JET has developed Shaka Rock into a modern classic with high energy and a progressive flair.
