This is a top quality, American made boot. I have purchased Wolverine boots(China) and Georgia boots(Dominican Republic). The quality and workmanship in this Thorogood boot tops them both, and I paid about the same for all three boots. I am a true 12D according to those metal foot measuring devices in your local shoe store. The Wolverine Moc Toe Wedge ran a good 1/2 size to maybe a full size large in a 12D and is being sent back. The Georgia Giant G8374 was true to size in a 12D and a keeper. The Thorogood 814-4355 in a 12D was also a good fit with room in the toe box and no heel slippage. I do have a very small amount of room at the end of the boot, maybe a quarter of an inch at best, which I prefer. If you want your toes flush up against the end of the boot, then I would order a 1/2 size smaller. It's a personal feel, but I like a little wiggle room in my boots and shoes. This boot is also a keeper. Because of the quality and craftsmanship in the Thorogood boot, I think I will get many years service from this product. Sizing is always my big dilema when ordering on the internet and not being able to try the shoe on locally. It is an area in which I wish online retailers gave us buyers more information, so we could make a more informed decision, before we end up spending $15 to $20 bucks sending the boots or shoes back. Weinbrenner, the manufacturer of Thorogood boots, has a sizing chart on their website to help customers get a more accurate fit. I used it, and it really did help my sizing decision. My left foot, which is a bit larger than my right, measured 11 1/2 inches, which equated to a size 12 on their boot chart. Thanks Amazon for your free shipping and returns on some of your boots. Don't hesitate trying this Thorogood boot; you will love it.

    Short version:
These are some fantastic, made in the USA boots.

    Long version:
I got these boots over a year ago and I wear them a lot. I've probably worn them at least 300 separate days for 8+ hours per day, so I feel pretty qualified to review them now.
Comfort: Two days after I got these boots I spent 8 hours standing on the concrete floor of manufacturing facility. My feet felt fine, there was no 'break-in period', they were comfortable right out of the box. A year later I was back on the floor of that same manufacturing facility and they still feel great. These are genuinely the most comfortable boots I have ever owned.
Durability: These boots are made of thick, full grain leather and triple stitched. I have worn these things on hikes, through muck and mud, through 18" of snow, through long days on concrete and they still look great and show no signs of wearing out. They have been scraped and scratched a lot (I'm tough on shoes.) and after a little leather treatment (I use Obenauf's LP*) they look great again. The sole on them is getting a little worn, I'll probably get them resoled in the next couple of months, but 13 months of hard use and a wedge is just now starting to wear out? That's hard to beat!
Any downsides? The only complaints I have about these boots are so minor that they're not worth subtracting a star for. The first one is that they squeak a little bit. Not a crazy amount, and only on some floors, but it's there. Big deal. The second complaint is that one of the tounges seems to be a little thicker than the other one, so they behave a little differently. Not a problem, just a little oddity.

I really can't recommend these boots highly enough.

I just got my Thorogood American Heritage 6" plain toe boots. They are very comfortable and are made very well. They feel great out of the box. I can see these lasting a long time. I had to size down a full size. I usually wear an 8.5 and the 7.5 fit perfectly. Also Amazon needs to update their description for the boots regarding the sole. Vibram no longer makes the soles for these as stated in the description and pictures there's nothing wrong with the soles but they are not Vibram as stated in the description. The soles are a Thorogood Maxwear wedge (made in USA) I'm very happy with these boots.

After searching high and low for a good, American made "work" boot for travel wear and casual use, I narrowed the choices down to Red Wing, Wolverine, and Chippewa. I forgot where, but I then found Thorogood and had to throw that into the mix as well.

After comparing prices, reviews and overall looks/function I decided to roll the dice and go for the Thorogood boot. Main reasons were: all leather, American made, 6" height, comfort, LACE HOOKS towards the top and...price.

Let me tell you folks out there...this boot is AWESOME. I have a weird fetish(?) for "work" boots and chukkas over regular shoes and own/owned Aldens, Danners, Red Wings, etc. and these Thorogoods fit PERFECTLY right out of the box (do order a size or half size smaller), came with a nice comfortable insole, used good quality leather and were very nicely stitched where the leather meets the sole. It is obvious these boots are well made and with pride.

How is it possible they make such a quality product for a lot less than all the companies I listed above??? I don't know but now I'm tempted to order a couple more in different styles/colors just in case they eventually become trendy and retailers like J. Crew, Brooks Brothers and Union Made start commissioning special editions for their shops and jack up the prices!

I've only had this pair for a couple days now, but I've been running errands around town and walking as much as possible and they're comfy with medium weight socks and I feel no break in will be necessary. Later this Fall I'm taking a long trip abroad and definitely look forward to having these with me the whole time!

Now go get a pair and DON'T spread the word!!
