A wonderful concept with delightful performances and some truly memorable scenes, but overall rather unevenly executed. To cite perhaps the most evident example: in an effort to portray the epic cast of colorful and bizarre characters in Robert Harris' book (a must-read it if you haven't already), we have dozens of characters parading across the screen for just one or two scenes, only to disappear without really contributing meaningfully to the overall story. Such moments are fun for people in the know, but potentially distracting for everyone else. On the other hand, Jonathan Pryce is at the top of his form in this series, particularly in the final episode. It's a real curio that you won't regret watching.
