This show is fun. My daughter who is 4 loves it. WordGirl always saves the day by thwarting villians and there are always a few advanced words that are presented in context. Currently our fave show, along with Mama Mirabelle, also streamed by amazon prime for free. Hooray!

Word Girl is great as just an educational show, but it also has a sense of humor and substance that far outdistances the majority of prime time television. Parents may want to enjoy it with their kids to hear some great comedians including Patton Oswalt, Chris Parnell, Maria Bamford, Jeffrey Tambor and others.

We recently canceled our cable subscription and bought a Roku box. It comes with PBS kids and allows us to stream our Amazon prime videos. I was afraid our three-year old son would continue to ask for Disney Junior. He gets one 30 minute show at night before bed, so his choice in TV programming is very important to him. He doesn't want to waste his one show on something he doesn't love. He has watched PBS shows all along, but usually requested a Disney Junior show at night. After trying various shows, he tried Word Girl. Well...he loves it! All we get now is requests to see Word Girl. Amazon is amazing because it allows us to watch the earlier seasons. While the show can be a little old for a three year old, with the exception of the bullying episode, we haven't found anything that needed a post-show discussion. (The bullying episode had the villain using words like loser and failure...a little strong for a three year old).

I have 2 daughters age 5 and 3. They both love Word Girl. I like it because it concentrates on vocabulary. There are always at least two vocabulary words that they tell the kids in the beginning to listen for and then as the show goes on they use the word in context and then explain in conversation what the word means. The show itself is a little silly with a girl from another planet that lives a normal girl life and then changes into word girl, a superhero that helps when trouble comes to town. The trouble is usually in the form of silly, inept villains. My girls love this show and I am comfortable letting them watch it as there is nothing too violent or inappropriate and it is educational.

My six year old wanted to watch this instead of the "scary movie" (Spiderman) that his older sisters were watching. Word Girl has drama, humor and the good guy (girl) always wins!
