In this hilarious "Hot Shots!" sequel, former renegade pilot Topper Harley (Charlie Sheen) is once again recruited for a secret mission. This time the country's incompetent president (Lyod Bridges) sends him to the Middle East to resue U.S. hostages and the countless men who have already been sent in to rescue them. Hot Shots: Part Deux! is an amazing rarity---a sequel that's actually superior to the first movie. (Not that Hot Shots! was bad; it was quite funny and enjoyable in its own right.) Like the second Star Trek film, this sequel gels all of the good elements from its predecessor and discards whatever didn't quite click. In this case, the supporting cast made the movie even more than Charlie Sheen as its troubled hero Topper Harley. Returning are the late great Lloyd Bridges, this time as the president, and Valeria Golino as the lovely Ramada. Joining Topper are his former CO (Richard Crenna), a no-nonsense tough-guy soldier (Miguel Ferrer), a cool blonde CIA operative (Brenda Bakke) and Ramada's hapless yet scornful spouse (the wretchedly hilarious Rowan Atkinson).

Abandoned for no apparent reason by Ramada, Topper seeks inner peace at an Asian monastery, kicking the crap out of whoever steps into the fighting arena with him. His former CO finds him and asks Harley to go on a mission to find the men who went to find the men who were sent to find the men---you get the idea. In a filmed spoof of both other films (Rambo, Terminator II) and real-life events (President George the elder Bush's unfortunate vomiting into the lap of a Japanese official), Hot Shots Deux is funny, fresh and at times even more insane than a Leslie Neilsen movie, without the tendency to bog down that usually plagues this type of sight comedy.

Sheen, of course, deserves plenty of credit for the movie's success, for he breathes life into the potentially cardboard lead role. Crenna does an excellent if off-the-wall reprise of his colonel character from Rambo.

HOT SHOTS PART DEUX is an admirable sequel to the hilarious HOT SHOTS. Charlie Sheen, Valeria Golino and Lloyd Bridges return from the original, but their characters have different histories in this one, which doesn't really make much sense in a sequel, but hey, who's complaining? It's a fun-filled movie filled with some excellent sight gags, some off the cuff dialogue and the wonderful background gags you might not see if you're paying too much attention to the movie. Both a cinematic and political spoof, Sheen shines in his reprisal of Topper Harley in his buffed Rambo body; Golino and Brenda Bakke keep the hormones bubbling in their effectively sexy and funny performances. The Sadam Hussein spoof is hilarious, with his lisp and his Americanized habits. Check out the different foods he keeps in his cupboard. The T-2 "morphing" sequence has hilarious results too. Bridges as usual steals most of his scenes, and Richard Crenna effectively spoofs his own RAMBO character. I didn't think this one sustained its frenetic pace as well as the original, but it still made me howl with laughter, so it's definitely worth viewing.

I just loaned my DVD of this to a friend and she raved about it for days. I hadn't seen it in a few years and nearly injured myself laughing. An extremely smart flick with the perfect mix of nonsense, slapstick, and some of the best contemporary political satire one could hope for. Post Gulf War and pre 9/11 but still deeply relevant in its take on our continuing idiotic confrontation of two absolutely ridiculous cultures. No one is spared and that's the way it should be. A perfect film for those who realize the whole planet's turned into one big looney bin. This is in my top ten of all-time great satires!

If you like comedies, movies about the military, or comedy movies about the military, then grab this one. It's fully loaded with great site gags, one-liners, and jabs at those "serious" military flicks. A great group of cast members who play off each other remarkably well. You'll laugh yourself right out of your camouflaged BVDs.

This movie is a special treat for mature war film buffs. It has great over-the-top acting with truely masterful comedic performances from a cast of veteran actors. Charlie Sheen has the ripped tough guy look downpat. The late Richard Crenna plays a perfect straight hard core military officer. Well paced, excellent production values, photography, sound effects, multiple layers of humor, with sight gags, and dialogue that uses many double meanings. LLoyd Bridges does a scene reminiscent of the famous early 1960's "Sea Hunt" series that is a side splitter. Tremendous political satire of Pres.Bush 41, and Saddam Hussein. The movie uses sexual situations and word play masterfully.( Ex. An Iraqi interrogator using Yiddish expressions) "Hot Shots! Part Duex" wickedly parodies the gun violence and martial arts in many action movies. If you have seen the TV series Sea Hunt, American Gladiators; the movies: Rambo, Navy Seals, Terminator II, KickBoxer, Apocalypse Now and know anything about the Iraq War.. you'll just fall out of your chair laughing. What "Blazing Saddles" did to the Western Genre and "Spaceballs" does to science fiction and "Shrek" did to animated films.. "Hot Shots! Part Duex" does to action war films.
