Directions

I've read a lot about L-Methylfolate and wanted to try it. It's considered a medical food and works differently than antidepressants. The brain uses L-Methylfolate to make more of the neurotransmitters that affect mood. A majority of people with depression have a genetic mistake, called the MTHFR polymorphism. It is an enzyme defect that compromises the body's ability to break down folate (from the diet or from synthetic folic acid found in vitamin supplements) into the L-methylfolate the brain needs to make neurotransmitters.

I like the fact that this product doesn't have any magnesium stearate, an additive found in many supplements and may be harmful therefore a cause for concern. Each capsule is 1000mcg. of Folate as Metafolin, a registered trademark of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt,Germany. L-methylfolate as Metafolin requires no conversion by the body and is superior to folic acid. While shopping around I found this product and bought some because I was impressed with the ingredients, dosage and good price.

My son is on the ASD spectrum and has the MTHFR mutation. Both my husband and I have the mutation as well. After a few days of taking this, I literally feel way different. I have a greater sense of well being, more energy, and just feel better. I've felt like I've had no energy for years now with no explanation and now I know why. It is a must have for anyone with the MTHFR mutation.

Preprocessed Folate

My son has trouble breaking down folate (MTHFR gene mutation) and this product provides a form of folate which is more easily processed (or, more accurately, is preprocessed for you). I think it is helping him. I also like that there aren't a lot of "extra" ingredients added to the formula (my son is very sensitive to most chemicals, etc.). So, if you need to add some folate to your system/diet, I would recommend this product.

Though it's still early in the game to evaluate fully, i feel like this brand works very well. I do have the genetic mutation and resulting problems. The work of Dr. Ben Lynch has helped me tremendously to figure out why i can never seem to detox no matter what i try. I'm now more hopeful than i've ever been since he is instrumental in the making of this formula.

L-Methylfolate not as good as Deplin

I had been taking prescription strength l-methylfolate, brand name Deplin, which is not covered by insurance & is expensive. I decided to try this, which I assumed is basically the same thing, just less milligrams. So to equal the Deplin I was taking (15mg.) I had to take 15 pills a day. I did not get the same energizing, clear-thinking effect as I do with Deplin, so I went back to my prescription.

High quality product

I love the high quality of the Seeking Health products. I take this because of my MTHFR mutation and this product makes all the difference in the world. My only complaint about this specific product is that it is 1000 mcg. It's a nice low dose to start off at because you should start slow, but once you start getting up to high doses, it's not very economical.
