Series Finale: May 13, 2012

Ah "Desperate Housewives". The time has finally come to an end. Now what I am going to do on Sunday nights? This show has managed to keep me entertained now for eight seasons with enough twist, turns, and drama to make me dizzy.

I enjoyed this season. I feel that the series "went out" while it still had a good, solid fan base. Even though this was the last season it was NOT short on Mystery, humor, and the ever present drama that we all love. The finale showed exactly what I wanted to see, which was how the writers were going to conclude the story-lines of the four main characters: Susan, Lynette, Bree and Gaby and I was not disappointed.

As much as I enjoyed this show, all good things must come to an end sadly, this was "Desperate Housewives" time. Wisteria Lane will live on now through DVD'S.

I LOVE 'Desperate Housewives'! I own every season, I have watched and enjoyed every episode! I know that I'm the exception to the rule with regards to my sentiments about the show, but I honestly loved every season of show- I don't feel that 'Desperate Housewives' lost any of its magic in later seasons. Like all good things the show had to come to an end, and I feel that Season 8 was the right time to finish the series, because the show was still great! The final season had it all- mystery, friendships, drama, romance, breakups etc, and HUMOUR!! I thought the Final Episode was generally well executed, except for the final 5 minutes which were unnecessary and disappointing. Marc Cherry, in the final minutes, didn't need to tell the audience that the 4 central characters playing cards together were doing so for the very last time, before going there seperate ways! It just didn't make sense that these women that had been great friends for years and survived extraordinary circumstances together, would in a short space of time leave Wisteria Lane and not stay in touch! Furthermore, Marc Cherry should not have told the audience what the main characters did with their seperate lives MANY YEARS into the future- this should have been left to the audiences imagination!! However, please keep in mind my criticism only relates to the final minutes of the final episode. The Final Season of 'Desperate Housewives' was consistantly brilliant! I highly recommend you buy ALL 8 Seasons of the show, it will provide you with many years of viewing pleasure!!!

two readers feel the below may contain spoilers so proceed with that notice,

amazon doesn't allow us to give half stars but that is what the grade should be, 3.5 stars.

well, i'd watched DH all along so couldn't say no to watching its final season, to see how everyone ended up. i wish i had been able to stop at edie's death, when the show finished being first rate, but i was weak. i can't imagine why you would want to see this season if you hadn't seen the prior seven seasons. it will make no sense if you attempt to do so. so i assume everyone is like me, hanging in there to see how it turns out. if you decide to satisfy your curiousity, watching it here on amazon instant viewing is a pretty easy way to take in the resolution. some of the highlights are as follows.

lynette and tom are still separated. tom is dating a new woman and the issue becomes whether he will make a life with her or go back to lynette. susan faces the biggest life changes of all. incredibly, she and julie come together in shared goals. carlos and gabby have to struggle with some drinking problems and career changes. plus gabby's past surfaces with a vengenance. but they stilll remain a very strong couple. bree finds herself fighting a murder charge and love looms large for her via her criminal defense lawyer. her second husband orson also reappears in her life again for awhile, still the same creep he's always been.

i guess the major thing that went AWOL was the smart, snappy writing in this show. as the writing went down to soap opera level, you had to take it or leave it at that level. it may be DH's weakest season, but if you want to see how it all turns out for them, this is the season which resolves all issues.

This last and finale season picks up where season seven left us; on a rollercoaster ride of emotion and surprises. Newcomers on Wisteria Lane are intriguing and have loads of charisma to sell, especially Charles Mesure as Ben. What a presence! Season five and season six were, to me, of lesser quality. Although I've always remained a fan, I thought that the episodes were starting to become caricatures of themselves. I even went as far as to regret that they didn't end the show at the end of season four, with that original and perfect ending showing us the characters five years older. In a way, I still think that it was the perfect way to say goodbye. Even though I love Marc Cherry's creation, I think he stretched it a bit too far. But if you could go back in time and adjust some things, I'd take season five, six, seven and eight and morph them into one big, incredible single season and make it the ultimate season five (and last one). But with all things being equal, season seven, to my surprise, renewed my interest in this TV series, making me remember what I loved in this show in the first place. And season eight was like an extension of the previous one. I find myself sad that it's all over. Along with "The Sopranos" and "Lost", "Desperate Housewives" was, to me, the best TV series of its era.

In this last season, you get the same story arc as before, with each character going through his or her own personal adventures while interweaving his or her path with the others. Lines are crossed, wars are declared, treasons become necessary, Hearts and lives are broken, secrets are revealed and, ultimately, peace and joy prevail. A central idea dominates the entire season while several other little mysteries are being solved.
