I watched this show when I was a kid, but I am by no means a purist or fan. My child discovered the series through the movie release, so I purchased this season for him. This is the season he most often requests to watch because of Grandpa Smurf. I honestly purchase this because there are 20 episodes in the season, and that's a lot of Smurfs for the bucks.

I grew up watching the Smurfs, and never have seen these episodes before. It's impossible to catch on tv nowadays, even on the network that still plays them. Will always be a fan!!!!

The first genie on the Smurfs was fat, older, and anti-social. This genie is smaller, younger, and kinder, but he too has a flaw. This episode tries to teach the clich'e "Be careful what you wish for, you might get it." But it also derives greatly from "The Monkey's Paw" in that wishes don't result in happiness. (That was spoofed on one of the old "Treehouse of Horror" episodes on "The Simpsons." This episode, oddly, doesn't have Gargamel in it at all. If genies are from Arabia and the Smurfs takes place in the Middle Ages, I don't understand why the genie has a New York accent.
