Season 1
3.9 out of 5 stars (34) IMDb 7.2/10

The X-Men are team of superhuman mutants founded by the world's most powerful telepath, Professor Charles Xavier. Formed to defend human and mutants alike, the X-Men have disbanded in the wake of a tragedy. One of their members, Jean Grey, is killed in battle with the evil secret society known as the Inner Circle. But when a young mutant in Northern Japan goes missing, Professor X, gathers his scattered team back together to once more fight against the evils of the world. Travelling to Japan, the X-Men encounter the fanatical anti-mutant group, the U-Men, and discover what was important enough for Xavier to bring them back together. Like many other long time X-Fans, I'm afraid I found this one an immense disappointment. I know it's easy to fall into hyperbole, but in all honesty, this may well be the single most boring cartoon I've ever seen.

On the plus side, on a purely technical level the animation is superb. About as subtle as a tattoo of a flaming skull, but technically superb. Oh, and almost all of the chicks are drawn with giant racks, too. And when I say "giant", I really do mean giant. The kind that in the real world could only be achieved with truly industrial quantities of silicone.

Actually, aside from the fact that everyone keeps their clothes on, the style of animation here is very much in the mould of high-budget R-rated anime. I'm not just talking about the spandex-clad chests - there's also the splatter and the gore. Measured purely in terms of screen time, the amount of violence in this show is probably about the same as you'd find in any other superhero cartoon. However, the feel and the texture of that violence is very different from what many viewers will be used to. There's something positively gratuitous about the way it's drawn. Indeed, it could almost be described as erotic... If that's your thing.

And yet, despite all the violence and the chicks with the giant racks, the truth is that this has to be one of the most profoundly boring pieces of television I've ever seen. The problem is... Well, let me explain with a story.

I remember back when I was about seven years old and I thought Star Wars was the greatest movie ever made. I also thought that because the best parts of Star Wars were the space battles, wouldn't Star Wars be even better if it was just one long space battle?

Of course, I now know that it simply doesn't work that way.

While I enjoy the artistic style of this anime, and have no issue with the way in which the characters are drawn (some have issues with the female atnatomy) it is not as good from a story stand point as it could be. I have been watching several different iterations of X-Men because my daughter is inmterested in animation and we both enjoy the X-Men. It seems taht they keep recycling the same story line across the titles. Unfortunately It is the same here.

If you are a long-term fan of the X-Men (I'm a fan since about issue 130 of the Uncanny X-Men, first appearance of Dazzler), you might not like this particular team configuration or the out of continuity characters and story arc.

The animation is cute and fun, with everything you'd expect in anime: babes in tight clothes with impossible figures, lots of moving background and flashes in fight scenes and teen to adult themes (and dialogue).

Very few series get the chance to be produced by a foreign studio. Even fewer turn out to be truly fantastic. It is this honor that befalls the Japan produced X-Men series. Action packed and very good, fluid animation, X-Men is, once again, leading the pack in good television.

The video was great. The storyline was a good twist to the comic storyline. You will also get a preview of some other marvel characters in this show. It is worth watching. I really do not know what more to say. Get it!

So Far it seem to be a good re-imagining of X-men The Animated Series. The Voice Acting is very good, and the graphics is on par with what Marvel has made the norm for the characters. Although the story they are doing is something that has been done before. I look forward to seeing where they go with it, and hope that they create new stories not seen before for this series. My only real complaint is I hope they drop the Japanese anime style sequences when action happens and the screen splits showing the fixed expressions of everyone's face. Myself I think it take away from the show.

Excellent animation is drug down by slow and basic story lines. The entire 12 episode season could probably have been wrapped up in 3 if the story had progressed at a reasonable rate. A shame beacause the artwork is beautiful to watch.

I've been an Xmen fan since the cameo days of Spiderman and His Amazing Friends. I loved the Xmen from Fox as well. So being a fan for a long time, I was somewhat skeptical of how an anime rendition would go.
As high quality much of anime is, many times the "feel" of characters may be off or even feel wrong. I was wrong. The show is entertaining and although draws on previous storylines, it's fresh enough.
The characters are different, but not so different to be distracting. The voice acting does a lot to save the characters though, I doubt I could watch it in Japanese. I also found the character design great espcially the various stills of other characters in the marvel universe.

Wolverine has some nice berserker moments as well. Definitely recommend for a fresh take of the xmen.
