`Fine, Totally Fine' (aka Zenzen Daijobu) is a quirky film involving characters on the fringes of Japanese society. It is well cast and engaging. As it is very Japanese in nature, I would only recommend it to those who have some familiarity with current Japanese cinema and/or have lived in Japan. I anticipate how I related to the film and my enjoyment of it had a lot to do with my having lived there.

For those viewers with children, I would rate this film PG-13 for a situation dealing with pornography.

Additionally, while the subtitles were generally a good reflection of what was being said, they got a little crazy a few times. For example, there was an episode where Akira was attempting to take a picture of a couple before a television tower. Apparently to reflect the couple being from the country, the translation for one character was "You be thinking we's a pair o' hicks!" While I actually paused the film to make sure it said what I thought it said, it definitely gets the point across.

Really liked the quirky, easy pace of this movie. The ending is unexpected but very realistic. Not something you would ever see in a Hollywood movie.

A real charmer. A hymn to the lovable, sensitive but totally awkward or misunderstood people of the world. It revolves around a young girl who seems to be incapable of doing anything right and who experiences strange misfortunes - like breaking a finger by just pushing an elevator button; a young man who is focused on bizarre tricks and dreams of managing a haunted house; a scarred young man who just wants to share his loneliness; and finally a young physician who falls in love with the girl and keeps making excuses for her mistakes. Add to the porridge a small-time movie being made with one of the principals, and this is unlike any film you have heard seen. I highly recommend it.

And weirdness. Wonderful, Japanese weirdness--the all-thumbs but attractive women who makes three men fall in love with her (in a country obsessed with manual dexterity!), the two high school chums closing in on thirty, One a hospital bureaucrat with a heart, the other with a mania for scary paraphernalia and a dream of being on the cutting-edge of the haunted house biz, plus a menagerie of used bookshop owners, homeless artists, hicks from the sticks speaking Zu-Zu-ben and rich entrepreneurs who never fail to intrigue. A real peak behind the curtain of efficient, polite, cheerfulness that the Japanese themselves love to sell. And if you're looking for something to polish your Japanese language abilities, this is a great romp through conversational, everyday lingo. Loved it. Not a masterpiece, but entirely successful in what it set out to do.

This is an eccentric Japanese film which some Westerners may or may not understand. However this tends to be typical for a Japanese comedy and I have seen several of them too. There were some very funny scenes. The acting and shooting of the film was good. Character development was a bit slow but finally did reach its full potential. I am glad Amazon offered these types of films to broaden one's mind and global experience.

They walk among us.....our friends (and maybe ourselves).- nerds who didn't get the message that that they have to grow up and get serious about life, wanna-be artists who recognize that they have to fit in but don't know how, guys who have sold their souls to the man for bread but are dying inside because of it. The movie also gives a little warning about what happens if you refuse to try and fit in...

This story is pretty universal and sad and very funny. You don't have to be Japanese to get this one. Recommended.

Strange, laconic, romantic and surreal. It's funny, heartwarming, deadpan and very dry humor, but quite funny in the end. The acting is quite good, and if the characters are at times a bit stereotyped and/or odd, still their personalities are well developed. The film brings together a number of stories very well, and combines both aimlessness and unpredictability and a boy-meets-girl romance -- sort of -- that warms the heart.
