You feel yourself inside the ski boots, carving the turns, catching air, every move an instinct. And simultaneously you are out-of-body, looking down on a skiier's dream of powder, a skiier who's flying past stands of evergreens slubbed in snow, launching from deceptively soft and creamy snow ledges, over breath-stopping cliffs. Intercut into these images of hair-raising runs, are the wry remarks of the skiiers themselves, sporting 'war' injuries and telling the stories that come with them. The kind of movie you will want to own, and take out and watch from time to time. Especially when the winter moves in and you happen to be housebound instead of out there with your skiing buddies on the slopes.

A lot can happen in 8 years. RIP Shane McConkey & Sarah Burke. The arc of their lives proves that their testimony in this film wasn't just empty talk: they were literally willing to sacrifice all for the fulfillment of leading the avant-garde that shaped the future of their sport.
For the rest of us of lesser talent & dedication, this loss seems tragic.
I chose to be inspired by their original self-expression & the filmmaker's quest to present it in a creative format worthy of the risks the athletes are taking.
This isn't MSPs finest film, but there are moments of inspired montage & the film is worth seeing as a snapshot of the best talent the sport had to offer in 2006.

Insane skiing footage, gnarly crashes, and a real look at skiing video production.
