Stars Earn Stripes 1 Season 2012

Season 1
4.7 out of 5 stars (24) IMDb 5.1/10

Hosted by General Wesley Clark (retired) and Samantha Harris, "Stars Earn Stripes" is an action-packed competition show that pays homage to the men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces and our first-responder services. The star-studded cast includes Laila Ali, Dean Cain, Terry Crews, Nick Lachey, Todd Palin, Dolvett Quince, Picabo Street, and Eve Torres. The celebrities will gather at a remote training facility, where they will be challenged to execute complicated missions inspired by real military exercises. From helicopter drops into water to long-range weapons fire, the contestants will be tested physically, mentally and emotionally. Each will be paired with a special operative from a military branch or one of our first-responder forces, who train alongside their partners and compete in the missions with them. Each of the teams is competing for a cash prize on behalf of a military, veterans or first-responder charity. Committed to hiring recent vets on to the crew, "Stars Earn Stripes" hopes to inspire other employers throughout the country to make similar commitments to our returning heroes and show audiences just how impossible their service missions really are.

As the spouse of a S.W.A.T Officer / Army Reservist (currently on his 4th active duty tour overseas), I loved this show! I thought the "celebrities" were very respectful toward the military operatives, and it seemed to be a very eye opening and humbling experience for them. They took this opportunity very seriously and every one of them said it completely changed they way they view our brave men and women in uniform.

I honestly think that the critics who negatively reviewed this show, did not watch it to the end. There was a HUGE amount of humility, and at times even tears, in the eyes of the "celebrities" as they talked about how impressed they were with the Operatives on the show and how much they respected them for their service and sacrifice for our country. They appeared truly grateful for the experience of being on the show and getting to have even a small glimpse at what our military does to ensure our safety and freedom. I REALLY hope they do a second season of this show. My spouse and I both felt it really did a good job of honoring our military, and the fact that the celebrities were competing to win money for military and law enforcement based charities like Wounded Warrior Foundation, Got your 6, and USO, was awesome!

To those who gripe that it is a "reality show" or that it "glamorizes war"...you clearly didn't watch the show to the end. There was nothing glamorous about it. There were a few "celebrities" who failed their missions, "celebrities" who were covered in mud, several injuries, and lots of bruises! In the end, there was a great deal of humility both on the part of the celebrities and the operatives.

One thing I was also really impressed with was the fact that many of the operatives, when approached about being on the show, said no...

this show is great because it shows what it takes to be apart of different parts of our military. Would have put different stars in but they are still good.

Unlike most TV and movies, this series gives you professionals in scenarios where they must "shoot, move &communicat" . They miss, they change magazines, etc. the stars do not matter in this show although they look good and perform well. This shows gives us a glimpse into the training of our military & law enforcement professionals. Most importantly it shows us that -unlike the movies, there are no endless magazines and you don't always hit your target; on the first shot.

I enjoy seeing celebrities moving out of their comfort zone and into another arena. This is a level above skating or dancing with the stars because they train for military action. Of course it's not "real" compared to what our brave military and law enforcement officers go through! Who would expect that? But it's certainly entertaining, and I nominate LL Cool J for Season 2!

Whether you loved the bro-mance between Dean Kane and Chris Kyle, may he R.I.P., or laughed at the antics between retired Green Beret Grady Powell and Eve Torres, this was fun and nail biting. I found myself holding my breath when things didn't go quite right and cheering encouragment when they did. I hope this show comes back and continues for many years!!!
