Who would have thought someone brokenhearted by a bad internet relationship gone wrong would and could help right the wrongs of many others, and play matchmaker in the process?

Nev is a humanitarian, matchmaker, detective, therapist, and so much more, all rolled into one. And you gotta love Max too. I saw Catfish the Movie about a year ago and when I saw that there was a show on MTV, I rolled my eyes and thought to myself, "really, you're making a TV show out of this? MTV is just never going to be the same."

Actually, though, the TV show is actually pretty good. I love it that Nev is getting addicts and compulsive liars to turn over a new leaf and life. People that have assumed other people's identities for years are coming clean!!! I always thought such people to be mentally insane or lacking or imbalanced or unintelligent to say the least, but most of the time, the people who did that were lacking love, or self-esteem. Some of the perpetrators are even beautiful and gorgeous. It's like why did you resort to such antics and thievery? The human psyche is quite complex and this show helps to make sense of certain things.

Nev's ability to make peace between people in situations that could otherwise go ballistic is such a gift. I'm retired on a fixed income and have spent a big chunk of my "entertainment" allowance watching segments of this show. Also, of course, this show is such an eye-opener as a warning to all of us regarding internet "relationships." As to his original experience in "Catfish" (the Movie); that it led to this series, which benefits others of us out here clicking around on our computers, was for the good. After viewing several of the segments, even if I think I know what's going to happen "this" time, I'm surprised again and again. As his program speaks to so many societal trends which were not even possible back in my college days, I find myself thinking that, if I were still back in college, I would -- with his permission, of course -- use Nev's "Catfish" series as the basis of some paper or another in my Psychology/Sociology coursework. Everyone who uses social networking should watch this series, and take the lessons it offers!

Catfish was an absolutely terrific movie, and I was skeptical they could bring the same sensibility to a TV show. I was wrong! Neve has the same everyman charisma he showcased in the movie, and the exposes and mysteries are well-crafted and keep you on the edge of your seat. I sound like a plant at this point but I'm just a very enthusiastic fan of the movie and now this show!

Garbage TV...Rewarding those who are living a lie and then apologizing to them because they don't have the fortitude or integrity to own their deceit and deviance. These people need to be committed. Shameless. Great job yaniv! Absolutely top notch work! While real journalists are making documentaries about people dying and fighting for basic rights, you're handing out trophies & 15min of fame to the next potential psychopath.

I dont want to say much about the documentary that led to the show, but its definitely worth watching first. There is so much of this going on, and its so interesting to see how these play out. Im sure parts were posed for TV, but the end result is the same. It shows how many ways online relationships can go wrong, or sometimes have a fairy tale ending. I think Nev and Max are entertaining and they are very careful about how they they approach each situation, making the person who might be being "catfished" feel comforted and supported. Hopefully this will make others look further into their online relationships before things get too serious, and use some of the "tools" they used on the show. It was helpful that they were explaining what they were doing, so you would be able to do some research yourself.

I gave "Catfish" four stars, because I love the way the story is presented to the viewer. Nev gives the story of the online users, so viewers understand the details surrounding the need for both parties to meet. Giving one or both parties a chance to resolve their curiosity about the love partner that they met online. Even though some of the stories do not have storybook endings, Nev and his crew are always respectful of any negative outcomes. I am on season two and I will continue to watch the rest of the seasons. I suppose I should mention that my husband and I fell in love online. We were married six years ago after texting and voice chatting for a years, when the internet was young and emerging. We used webcam, when it became available. We fell in love beginning on a backgammon website and it progressed to becoming best friends. We realized we were falling in love and we finally met after three years! The kicker is, that he was from the UK (England) and I am from a small town in USA! He ended up coming for two visits, and asked me to marry him. We are very happy and living here in the USA! So, Nev, true love can happen via the internet. Have I mentioned that he is in his late 60's and I am in my early 50's! I would highly recommend watching the series, especially if your not very internet savvy. It is sad that people misrepresent themselves, but Nev and the crew do a great job, mentoring how to become your own detective. Series much enjoyed!
