I paid like $20 for season five and they left out Shallow Gravy and A Very Venture Halloween! How the hell is anyone supposed to understand Dean and Doc's behavior when the episodes that explain their major revelations are missing? Anybody could buy this set without knowing it was incomplete and find it extremely frustrating and confusing that two of the main characters start acting differently and then casually mention knowing things they were never shown to have discovered! Giving this 3 stars purely because I consider this completely unforgivable on the part of Amazon or whoever was responsible for releasing plot-relevant episodes that give context to character behavior and interactions as separate "specials" just because they were released early! If it weren't for that I'd give the season 5 stars. It's still well written with a rich and expansive world full of complex and dynamic characters, fantastic action and humor and plenty of intrigue to keep you invested while still slowly but surely resolving old questions and making it clear that the writers actually HAVE answers for most of the questions that remain and intend to eventually give them, unlike some OTHER shows *cough*Lost*cough*.

There I sat, muddling through my Amazon Prime account, when, in the corner of my eye, I saw a flash of red. "Oi! Wot's this?" I said, even though I am not a Cockney policeman. And there it was! "The Venture Bros-Season 5"! IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIVE! What hath God wrought? I had given up hope after the end of Season 4. I don't have a television so I wasn't aware that ADULT SWIM had renewed this show, but I thank the powers that be at A.S. for doing it. I watched "..Cleansuit" last night and everyone was there! Especially Dr. Girlfriend! Thank you! The funniest show on the air is back with better animation, fleshed out characters, and did I mention Dr. Girlfriend? I may begin a VB marathon, from Season 1, while the episodes from Season 5 trickle in. At last a reason to live.

If you are a fan of Henchman 21 you will love this recap. It basically give the major highlights of the last few seasons in a podcast type voiceover. I have already watched it twice and will likely watch it another half dozen times before the new season starts in a week.

Go team Venture!

Edit 6/5/13: So now after watching the season premier first let me say how much I missed this show and it was as entertaining as always. That being said I was very disappointed that Brock was only in the very beginning of the first episode for a few seconds, but I'm hoping that will change in future episodes.

For something that started out as a funny but definitely one-note joke, The Venture Brothers has consistently impressed me season after season. Very few cartoon tropes are off limits, and the only complaint I have about the fifth season is that it's so much shorter than the previous ones (and that is ends on a James Bond cliffhanger of "The Venture Bros. Will Return.")

Funny stuff. I will never get tired of Hank's boundless enthusiasm, Hatred's withering sarcasm or Doc's egotistical ineptitude.

...Actually, I can think of one other minor complaint: not enough Doctor Orpheus.

Great cartoon for grownups who have fond memories of adventure cartoons and comic books of the 50s, 60s and 70s. A loving send-up that manages to be frequently truly exciting and almost always hilarious. Jonny Quest for adults -- the kid has grown up and has kids of his own, and everyone, including the super-villains, are neurotic messes. Brilliant, and even better upon 2nd and 3rd viewings.

The Venture Bros are an acquired taste, but once you get this satire on old adventure yarns, it will become an addiction. Solid storytelling, great dialog, and enough homage to please any true geek. Recommended!

I have to say it was worth the wait for season five. This is a consistently funny and engaging show, and I can't wait to see where they take the characters.
