I saw this in the theater (Buffalo) and enjoyed it! Another reviewer said predictable, but I say relatable instead! How many times have you cursed yourself in your head or outloud about trying to be suave with the hottest girl you know (and failing miserably)? A fun and funny movie with some up-and-coming talent and (hey kids, it's) Mike Ditka!

Because I was surfing the internet while watching this movie, I kept it on when I would have normally turned it off. I think the reason the movie gets pretty good reviews is because of the last third of the movie - It does get better. However, it was predictable, annoying and gross at times. So, it was just not for me.

I saw the movie twice in theaters in LA and Anaheim. I was in it along with my daughter and one of her friends. It was fun to see it all come together. I had no idea what it was about until after the filming...Did not know Dick Butkis was in it he was very funny. I want to purchase the DVD when it comes out.

Contrary to the long list of gross out comedies over the years, this movie attempts to create humor through painfully awkward situations. It's not really a knee slapper so much as it just has it's moments. There are a few gross out moments and a few crass jokes (that mostly fall flat). The topic here is obviously about the painfully awkward kids in high school and as such the movie also tends to have the same personality.

THE PLOT: Payton is a hopeless dork who loves comic books and has absolutely no clue about women. Naturally he has a crush on the unapproachable head cheerleader Carrie who is tired of him chasing her year after year. The movie actually opens with Payton practicing the worst pickup lines known to man so he can convince Carrie to go out with him. They are so bad that they are not even funny bad. Carrie is determined that Payton will not ruin her senior year and has an epiphany when she sees what Payton cannot, a dorky girl, Samantha, who is both perfect for Payton and even seems to like him. Carrie goes on a crusade, occasionally helped by her jock boyfriend, to bring the two dorks together. She teaches Payton how to be less of a dork and, more importantly, how to talk to and act around women. Not all of the advice is perfect, but you could actually say this movie is mildly instructive.

A 2014 update of Can't Buy Me Love this is not. The movie is funny, but not always engaging. There are easily recognizable stars though B movie quality for the most part. On one hand the movie is a little soft sell in that by the end it redeems all the characters it tries to make you hate early on. Normally I don't like that. However, in this case I would say it's actually a strong point and I really liked the note it ended on with certain individuals.
