Kharé is brimming with things to do and creatures to meet. Visit the Festival of Thieves, battle a ghost, escape from slavers, gamble your fortune at the Halls of Vlada, drink at the tavern, worship strange Gods, and much much more. From legendary designer Steve Jackson, co-founder of Lionhead Studios (with Peter Molyneux), and Fighting Fantasy and Games Workshop (with Ian Livingstone), and designed and adapted by inkle, the app uses inklewriter technology to tell your journey in real-time, shaping the story around your choices. The text itself changes based on how you play and what you do. In combat, the action is described on the fly based on how you play.

Fantastic game book

First off, I played the first book and it was great. At the end you can save your game to cloud so you can continue your game on this 2nd one (you can also start this one without playing the first).

This book is fantastic, it's an improvement from the 1st one and both of them have the best use interface than any game book I've played.

There are a ton of options, many of them end up being different from each other, not like some game books that all the choices go to the same point.

For me, the best feature is the ability to rewind at any point in the game, if you think a different choice would've been better, just rewind and good to go. Other features include a mini-game with dice, a simple combat system, and a spell system with over 40 spells, each doing something different.

Bottom line: I usually don't pay more than $1 for phone games, I'd pay $5 anyday for this game. I've played it for hours and still haven't gotten thru it.

I have never read the books these games are made from but I really enjoyed the first Sorcery! so I bought this one no question. I don't like this one as much because of he part where you have to go back to an earlier part of the story if you didn't get everything right. It's easy to forget what you did and you end up in the same place, especially if you are setting the tablet down every now and then. I will probably try the third one, but this one didn't grab me like the first one did. I feel like one playthrough through Sorcery 1 left a lot for replay, I feel like this one makes you scour every alleyway so once I get it all right I won't have anything left for another go through.

The first part was great but this one was by far the better of the two. In this part we are introduced to new features that make it more interactive such as the ability to play Swindlestones as you speak with creatures to find useful information. Part two is definitely longer than the first. Just like in the first you will be immersed into the world through the graphics, music and story. Very well done.

My only issue with the game is the many typos I encountered throughout. I don't remember encountering this many on the first. Proofreading is the only area of improvement. Still, it's worth the asking price and five stars. Anxiously awaiting part three next week.

This is the second part of the Sorcery! series. If you have played the first game and are considering this one be aware that it turns everything up to 11. Incredibly complex storyline including crazy stuff like time travel, absurdly powerful weapons, stunningly destructive spells, super tough enemies, deadly cunning villians. If you liked the first one this sequel will blow your mind. Oh and you can carry your character over from the 1st game.
Because of the depth of the story, multiple branching paths, various victory conditions, and potential to travel through time this game has a lot more replayability than the first one, well worth the $

I got this game as the FAotD a few days ago and decided to try it today. I've not played long but already love it. I'm trying to play without rewinding much, but the rewinds are fun, even though time consuming. I've not tried this type of "game book" game ever and I love the interaction where you must move your character along the board by swiping it to its destination, then you must read the storyline an select your options. The story is engaging, with a goal to work toward, exploration an collection of objects along the way. I really look forward to exploring this game in full.

It's fantastic and so intriguing. Should be a fantastic read and play experience. The ambiance of this game is so good. The sound and music, perfect. These games are fantastic if you are an RPGer or enjoy those choose your own adventure type game. I mean I'm not surprised it's great, being a Steve Jackson game. Would be great to see a LOT more of these coming out in the future. I can see the mechanics and style of gameplay working in a lot of settings and genres, as well. But I hope to see more of this world...I'm only halfway through part 2 but I know I want more. Would be cool to see companions or hirelings come and go down the line. A lot of replayabliity can be found in these games too,as every choice makes a difference down the line. Great game for kindle.

They're good games. If you hate to read don't get them. They have alcohol, cannibalism, and gambling in them so if you're looking at games for kids either play with them or stick with just older kids who will understand these themes aren't good.

Sorcery is a 4 part game series based off the novels from when I was really little. They're amazing. If you like old school western rpgs you might like these.

Sorcery 2 is based upon the highly regarded adventure gamebook ‘Khare: Cityport of Traps’ (it seems a shame that this title has been dropped from the app/game in favour of the rather bland ‘Sorcery 2’).

It is adapted in the same way as the first Sorcery gamebook, ‘The Shamutanti Hills’, providing a mix of the traditional gamebook text with options to select and videogame elements. This includes such things as the ability to take back moves with a rewind button (making things easier than in the gamebook) and a form of combat that relies on touchscreen techniques rather than dice rolling (which relies less on the usual Fighting Fantasy stats).

Like the first one, you are given an overhead map of the area you need to traverse and explore. Once more this is quite linear despite the appearance and you can’t just wander back and forth through the city streets at will. Thus, the main difficulty in completing this is to pick your route carefully. The rewind option makes this a lot easier.

Sorcery 2 is much more expansive than the adaption of ‘The Shamutanti Hills’. Although there wasn’t much a difference in size between the original two books this is a far larger game than its predecessor and there is a lot more to immerse yourself in.

Once more the objective is fairly simple in that you need to escape Khare by North Gate. However, achieving this objective is much more difficult than just reaching Khare as you had to do in the first game. This is because the North Gate is sealed by magic. To unlock it you will need to find four spell lines which are hidden throughout the city and learn the order in which they need to be recited. This is made somewhat trickier than it was in the original because the lines have also been split, requiring you to search through much more of the city. However, this game version is also more lenient. If you reached the North Gate in the book without all the required spell lines then you had basically lost. This version includes an option at the gate to be sent back through time and visit areas you may have missed, making it much more forgiving.

The layout of Khare is somewhat different but the bulk of the scenarios and the encounters are heavily based upon those of the original. Even though it doesn’t feel like the city is quite so dangerous and claustrophobic, this version still manages to capture enough of the atmosphere of the book.

The major difference, perhaps, comes with the inclusion of Swindlestones. This acts as a sort of subgame. It is a gambling game involving dice which you can play with multiple characters throughout the adventure. It is am enjoyable, and slightly addictive, addition that will hopefully feature in the adaption of ‘The Seven Serpents’.

Overall, the game is familiar enough for readers of the original to reminisce whilst playing but also different enough to be of interest and provide a challenge. Furthermore, it is a marked improvement upon the first Sorcery app.

Did realise this was a Steve Jackson game. This is brilliant. The game is a text based choose your own adventure for today but on your tablet with some beautiful illustration.

Everything is controlled with a swipe or a tap. It really couldn't be more refined.

Side note. I'm even impressed by the in game menu system. its clean a clutter free. Its sad that needs to be mettioned but less and less games seem to be able to get that right.
