First, I'm biased - I know Liam and have worked with him. I know he's top notch. And this book is exactly what you'd expect out of the guy who runs Freelancelift.com.

I don't consider myself a freelancer, although I have freelanced, and I do consult. What Liam has done here is create, in my opinion, the ultimate guide to being a freelancer...or rather, a top 1% freelancer (the kind that can charge 10x premium for their work).

How?

By teaching us:

1. how to set ourselves apart as value-add creators
2. how to avoid the hourly rate trap and build a brand that charges for value
3. how to name and design your business (although Liam says, quite rightly, these are more icing on the cake features)
4. how to build a powerful brand (that's more than just a cliche)
5. how to approach a potential client or business project scientifically (i.e. with a step by step process that Liam outlines and defines in the book)

And so much more.

So if you do freelancing, consulting, or if you're hired for one off tasks by anyone, you ought to read this book. For $10 you could make 1000x your investment. I know i have :)

There are some things of value in here that I'll consider putting into practice. There are a lot of distracting grammatical errors and typos and other sloppy things that almost made me give it up several times, though.

This book is a list of lessons learned. I'm not the precise target audience, but I am a freelancer. I was interested in what he had to say about getting to the next level. It's full of dry insights. If you're a web designer, this is probably a great book. Otherwise, you can just give it a pass.

This is a great book for any freelancer, even those that are successful already. You're going to pick up tips on how to run your business better.

Liam outlines a great 5 step path (circular since you finish then revisit the beginning) that will help you gain freelance success. It covers you from getting clients all the way to outsourcing.

Of course it can't be as in depth on every topic but you walk away with a great guide to start in some of the lighter areas, like working with a team and outsourcing.

I honestly wasn't expecting much when I started reading the book, I didn't expect to finish it. I was pleasantly surprised page after page with great motivating and freelance biz advice and tips. This book really made me take a hard look at how I run my web design business. It opened my eyes to the possibilities and beyond that added a few helpful tips as to how I can make my business more profitable.

The only con I can think of and this a personal preference so might not affect others is that at times the author feels in space with some stories I didn't really feel added value to the book.

I would recommend this book to any freelancer weather you're a web designer, content writer, author etc. Thanks for the motivation and providing me with a broader way to view my business.

First of all, the content and organization is top-notch. High-level summary: Stop doing freelancing as a series of one-off jobs and start treating it like a business. This book shows you how. If you've read a handful of marketing books, you've encountered a lot of these concepts, albeit with different terminology: USP, customer persona, sales funnel, passive income streams. But this is a fresh take with a lot of personal details. I disagree with Caroline Luu's review that this is useless for non-designers; yes, the author's experience as a web designer means this is heavily weighted with "web designer" advice, but anyone with a modicum of imagination can port this over to freelance writing, etc.

Two criticisms for which I'm deducting a star:

(1) For whatever reason, the ability to add highlights and notes in Kindle is disabled. While the author does provided downloadable material on his website (and references that at the end of each chapter), I would have liked to make my own notes as I read. It's an annoyance for an experienced Kindle user.

(2) The manuscript could've stood filtering through a copy editor. The points the author's making are perfectly clear, but it reads like it was dictated into speech-to-text software but not proofread. The result is the occasional construction (how does one "reside" over the French Revolution?) just awkward enough to make an English major like me cringe.

This book a full of great advice for freelancers. I specifically enjoyed it because many of the examples are based on Liam running a web design company and I also work in a similar field. I highlighted so much of this book and open it for the framework on proposals anytime I am writing one. I also enjoyed the chapters about creating renewable income and strategically setting up your business for success.

This book reads super easy, I really liked the content as well as how it was presented in such an easy way to read and digest. I believe any freelancer will get HUGE benefit from reading this and applying the principles.

Awesome book, super helpful. And the free resources and tools provided on the authors site are great too.
