Limited practical application, December 29, 1998
The Business Card Book presents basic information about business card use, generic design hints, and the history behind business cards. The book is not a practical "how to" guide -- despite the title. Most of the information is intended to minimally inform a business owner about the business card design process and assumes that the actual design is done by a professional. However, if a business owner contracts with a good designer, this book is essentially irrelevant. The book would be better described as a "how to check up on your business card designer" or "what to look for in a business card designer."The lack of practical usable information unnecessarily limits the utility of this work for someone seeking information on developing or designing business cards.

All the info you need, but a bit disorganized, February 8, 1999
This is a great book if you need to design a card, or want to update your card. All the information you need to create a card is here, but the book is in severe need of editing. At 480+ pages, it is far too long, and often diverges into completely new territory like how to handle a trade show. There is even a huge section on a little boy's battle with cancer. While I am all for charity (it's my business) I found this section very distracting in the book. Much of the book is repetitive also, and disconnected (How does "Jazz Up Company Cards" on page 337 follow from Identifying Yourself At A Meeting and Your Self-Inrtoduction on Page 336??) While the author warns against racial or ethnic blunders, she commits a huge one herself in describing a Scottish Telegraph game, which takes a swipe at Scottish people. The Pros? Has lots of information, lots of examples of business cards (though none in color oddly enough), a fantastic reference guide at the back of the book, with all kinds of useful information, a glossary which I found most helpful. My favorite section is on conducting business and presenting your card to foreigners.Grant also has a relaxed, friendly style of writing. The Cons: poorly organized, poorly edited, too long. I would like to see the book only half that size, with color examples. Grant writes some terrific text about other aspects of business (sales meetings, trade shows) but they belong in another book, not here. I do hope she keeps on writing, but more concisely, as she recommends herself for business!

Most important business book I bought this year!, January 20, 1999
In my thirty odd years in business I have spent enough on business cards to run a small island nation. Oddly enough, I have at least one of each of all the cards I have used. I pulled them out of the desk drawer when I started reading The Business Card Book and was able to see many of the real problems and a few strokes of genius there were in my business card history. I wouldn't be willing to say any card I used was responsible for a failed venture but several of them did nothing at all to help. I have always designed my own cards and intend to keep doing so, but with much more attention to what this very valuable tool, my business card can do for me. I strongly recommend this book to newbies and old-timers in small businesses and large.

Think YOU have a great business card? Think again!, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
Nearly 500 valuable pages of detailed information on the littlest billboard; your business card. What a treasure trove! I learned things about business cards that I'd never thought of before. Tons of great ideas. You must read this book BEFORE you design or redesign your business card.

An indispensible resource!, January 2, 2002
By A Customer
Anyone who has a business card of any kind can profit enormously from this book. Its a thick volume, but don't let that decieve you -- its actually a very quick read. Ms. Grant makes every page fly by with well-reasoned suggestions and literally hundreds of illustrated examples. Considering what an effective business card can mean to you, you'd be crazy to miss the information here. If you think your current business card is beyond improvement, read this book anyway -- for the price of a paperback, you can turn your business card into a better sales tool.

Great book - easy to read and very informative, February 14, 1999
By A Customer
I have just finished reading "The Business Card Book" - some of it more than once. I found the book to be very informative and suprisingly very interesting. It's very unusual to find a topic that appears to be so mundane, such as a business card, brought to life in such a masterful way. Very enjoyable reading! I recommend the book to all of my friends.

Every professional needs to read this book., January 27, 1999
If you want to be an In person these days -- and who doesn't, when it could often mean the difference between a Closing and a Close-down -- you need to learn how to dress your business for success. The Business Card Book by Lynella Grant will give you all the information you need, and then some. Dr. Grant proves without a shadow of a doubt that a business card can be your signature of quality, the turnkey that opens the door and keystone to doing business that gets results. The book is clever, well-wrought and all-inclusive. Dr. Grant shows you how to design your card, line by line, and how to make it speak for you. In this world of image-making, we need more books like this to show us how to get where we want to go.

Redo your business card & stationary the right way!, February 24, 2006
I would have given this book 5 stars, however, it takes some time for the information to set in properly in ones mind before getting around to making a good business card that stands out. To many business cards today are too information heavy and need more white space. I saw several examples of good quality business cards (Moonstruck Choclatiers just being one of them) and other ok models. Digesting all the information presented takes time, however, if you are needing to make your own business card and stationary because you cannot afford a professional designer, this book is for you. Making your business card work for you should be your number one focus.
