Good Fantasy Books

Paul W. Maurer
The list author says: "Here are a few of my favorite fantasy books...."
The Naming: The First Book of Pellinor (Pellinor Series)
The Naming: The First Book of Pellinor (Pellinor Series)
"THE NAMING is awesome!!!  A Tolkien sort of fantasy, but with a Celtic theme, Croggon's works are of excellent quality.  I was also captivated by her beautiful detailed writing style.  I was glued from start to finish!"
The Riddle: The Second Book of Pellinor (Pellinor Series)
The Riddle: The Second Book of Pellinor (Pellinor Series)
"Book II of the PELLINOR TRILOGY.  Another great read.  Croggon puts a lot of thought into her world and energy into her characters.  I wish they would make a movie of these books!"
The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, Book 1)
The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, Book 1)
"Nothing can beat the LORD OF THE RINGS books.  Tolkien sets his characters into such an amazingly detailed world, complete with languages and an intricate history.  Tolkien's books will live on."
The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, Book 2)
The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, Book 2)
"Book II of THE LORD OF THE RINGS.  You have not truely experienced fantasy until you have read these books."
The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings, Book 3)
The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings, Book 3)
"Book III of THE LORD OF THE RINGS.  I was so upset when I finished the last one.  These books are what drew me into fantasy, and I have never found a book that surpassed them."
The Silmarillion

The Great Tree of Avalon 1: Child of the Dark Prophecy
The Great Tree of Avalon 1: Child of the Dark Prophecy
"A weak beginning, but the rest was fabulous.  Barron's works captivated me with his idea of hundreds of seperate worlds interwined inside a massive form of tree.  He presents likable characters stuck in desperate situations all placed in an Authurian sort of setting."
Shadows on the Stars (The Great Tree of Avalon, Book 2)
Shadows on the Stars (The Great Tree of Avalon, Book 2)
"My least favorite of T A Barron's Trilogy, but still a good read.  Following the character's in Book I, it adds battles and betrayal, along with the adventures continuing from Book I.  The ending is a little disappointing but not enough to ruin the rest of the book."
The Eternal Flame (The Great Tree of Avalon, Book 3)
The Eternal Flame (The Great Tree of Avalon, Book 3)
"Book III.  My only complaint about this book is I wish Barron had tied up all the loose ends better.  He introduces a lot of things in the previous books that never get completely solved (esp. the relationships between charcters).  But even the slightly unsatisfying end is not enough to spoil the rest of the book.  There are plenty of battles and evil villians to keep the reader entertained."
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone
Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone
"Book I.  This was the last book I read of the HARRY POTTER series and I was amazed at how much Rowling built off the first book.  There is forshadowing in THE SORCEROR'S STONE that goes way into all the other books."
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
"Book II.  Just as good as the first.  Awesome!!!!"
Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban
"Another classic HARRY POTTER.  A must-read for any fantasy lover."
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire (Book 4)
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire (Book 4)
"My favorite one!!!  I am currently reading this book for the 5th time.  I guarentee that you will not disappointed."
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5)
"Another great read.  Rowling is amazing.  I flew through this book and when I finished, I started it again."
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)
"Book VI is clearly leading up to the last book in the series.  My only advice to the reader is SKIP CHAPTER II AND COME BACK TO IT WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED!!!  It gives away a major twist in the plot that ruins a lot of surprises later on in the story.  I still recommend this book to all who enjoy the previous HARRY POTTER'S.  An excellent read."
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
"The last book!!! Not out until the summer but I can't wait!"
Alphabet of Thorn
Alphabet of Thorn
"One of those strange fantasies that are really fun to read.  So far this is the only one of McKillip's books that I have really liked, but I am still trying them out.  Her writing is beautiful and captivating, but sometimes her plots can be a little shallow.  THE ALPHABET OF THORN is pretty good though with interesting characters and good description."
The Seer and the Sword
The Seer and the Sword
"I actually picked this up off a free rack in a garage sale thinking it would probably not be very good.  I was wrong however and got really into it.  Hanley creates strong and likable characters that develop and mature as they are set into dangerous situations.  Some parts were a bit too romancey for me, but there was also lots of action in it.  Overall, I was really pleased with it."
Eragon / Eldest (Inheritance, Books 1 & 2)
Eragon / Eldest (Inheritance, Books 1 & 2)
"ERAGON and THE ELDEST are awesome books esp. if your like me and like stories with dragons in it.  Paolini is excellent at making his dragons seem life-like.  In fact I found myself following the dragons in the book more than the human characters.  Paolini's only fault is that the middle of his books drag a little bit, the ends are always awesome!!!"
