You can build your own computer. As I am fond of reminding people, there are only 11 major parts in a PC. If you think you can connect just 11 items, then you can do it.

First, you need a good guidebook. Try mine. Its called Building a PC for Beginners. It takes an easy, step-by-step approach, with every step detailed by photographs. Its written in plain language, so you dont have to worry about deciphering a lot of technical jargon.

Next, youll need to do a bit of shopping for parts. Here at Amazon is the best place. I searched out some of the best bargains.

All systems are based around the CPU. This Sempron 2600+ PGA754 1.6GHZ 90NM 64BIT 1.4V 1.6GHZ Fsb Pib is a steal. Its a good, cool running chip.

The motherboard we selected was a MSI K8N Neo V2.0 H nForce3 250 Socket 754 ATX Motherboard. I like its five PCI slots.

Of course, youll need RAM Kingston ValueRAM 512 MB 400MHz PC3200 DDR CL 2.5 DIMM Desktop Memory KVR400X64C25/512. You can run Vista Home Basic with this.

The hard drive we selected was a Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM 8MB CACHE IDE Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD800JB. It gives plenty of space at a reasonable price.

We wanted a CD/DVD ReWritable drive. The I/OMagic IDVD168DL - Disk drive - DVDRW R DL 16x/8x/16x IDE internal Dual Format Double Layer DVD ReWritable Drive Burner was a bargain.

I insist on installing a floppy, so get a Sony MPF920-Z/CU1 Internal 3.5" Floppy Drive

An accelerated graphics card is great to have. A Diamond Stealth ATI 9250 AGP 128MB Video Card ( S85AGP128-CN ) is a low cost card that has a low-wattage requirement.

If you need a dialup modem, try a Agere SV92P-T00 56K v.92 PCI Data/Fax Modem - NEW OEM.

Get a case with a 300 watt, or greater, power supply. The one we picked was a <product no longer available> with 450 watts, and a temperature display.

Also, buy 2 case fans. Antec TriCool 80mm Cooling Fan with 3-Speed Switch.

With these parts, and my book, youll be ready to build.
