This list tries to include all albums that Jan Garbarek has participated on as a co-worker or incidental throughout his career. Most probably it will be incomplete, but I'll do my best. As with the previous list I have used help from the websites of Johann Haidenbauer, Brian Ritchie and ECM in my work.
Jan Garbarek has worked with a great, great number of artists in widely different genres, so this list here is possibly even more interesting and diverse than the list of recordings lead by Garbarek. This list also starts with the most recent record first.
Stages of a Long Journey Long time Garbarek collaborator Eberhardt Weber gathers all his musical pals to celebrate his own birthday, and this record is the result of two celebratory concerts (2007).
Universal Syncopations Vitous from "Atmos" and "Stars", here as a trio with Garbarek and DeJohnette featuring Corea and McLaughlin. ECM trademark quality jazz (2003).
Eight Seasons Building on traditional indigenous Sami music, Mari Boine creates her own style. She has appeared on many recent Garbarek recordings, and here, he returns the favour. Some people really like this - but it's not among my favourites. This album is supposed to be her best to date, though (2003).
Listen: The Art of Arne Nordheim Arne Nordheim is a composer of modern classical music, often atonal. Garbarek appears on "Solar Plexus" with Bobo Stenson - it's written by Nordheim (2002)
Rarum, Vol. 8: Selected Recordings Bobo Stenson - a swedish piano player with whom Garbarek recorded some of his most extroverted Coltrane-inspired work (2002).
Smiling & Waving Garbareks daughter Anja writes and performs Bjork-style ambient/techno. Daddy helped with the musical arrangements (2001).
Caris Mere Garbarek collaborates with a modern classical composer from Georgia, in the former USSR. The music has some likeness to Arvo Pärt's, although untraditional it is highly listenable (2000)
Madar Mixes norwegian, north african and pakistani traditional music, for sax, oud and tabla! All three musicians highly acclaimed in their own right. Highly recommendable (2000).
Balloon Mood Garbarek's daughters best CD so far - an original take on ambient/techno, though Björk-like, it has its own definite sound. Daddy helped with arrangements here, too. Highly recommendable (1999)
Music for Films Karaindrou is another ECM artist, lots of greek musicians. Not much of Garbarek, and pretty much mainstream film music / calm romantic classical (1991).
Alpstein Swiss medieval violin music mixed with Garbarek. Also a love-or-hate work, I think (1991). Certainly original.
Living Magic Gurtu has also worked with Garbarek before. Couldn't find any notes on this, and I don't know it myself (1991)
Guamba Gary Peacock has also worked with DeJohnette, Jarrett and Frisell. No notes on this one either (1987)
Making Music Zakir Hussain, Indian-inspired music for flute, sax, acoustic guitar, percussion. Opinions on it are divided (1986)
Chorus Eberhard Weber with his very special bass has been a long-standing co-worker of Garbarek. Here, the roles reverse for once. Both free-form and relaxing tracks, with beautiful melodies (1984)
Song for Everyone Shankar: Electric violin, sax and tabla. Meditative and indian-inspired (1984)
Vision The other Shankar/Garbarek, considered the better of the two. Trumpets on this one. Also meditative and new-agey (1983).
Voice from the Past: Paradigm One of several recordings with Gary Peacock. Bass, sax, trumpet, percussion. No leads whether it's any good, sorry (1981)
Cycles David Darling, a celloist, uses unusual orchestration. A well recieved album of the typically Garbarek pensive variety. Also indian-influenced (1981).
Nude Ants Jarretts scandinavian quartet strikes again - a good album, but not for absolute beginners, perhaps (1979) .
Personal Mountains A live recording of the Jarret quartet. Supposed to be better than "Nude Ants", and contains two of the same tracks (1979).
December Poems Gary Peacock again. Much bass work, dark moodiness(1977).
Sol Do Meio Dia Egberto Gismonti, a fellow co-worker with Vasconcelos and Haden. Brazilian indian-inspired music, exotic and contemplative. Not much Garbarek, here though. Highly praised (1977)
Deer Wan Kenny Wheeler, fluegelhorn ECM player. Features Abrecrombie, Holland and DeJohnette. One of Wheeler's best - well recieved (1977).
My Song The Jarret/Garbarek quartet does one of their most highly acclaimed albums figuring in the history of jazz itself (1977).
Arbour Zena Jarret, Garbarek and Charlie Haden - also a very highly acclaimed album (1975)
If you are looking for Jarret/Garbareks "Luminessence" (1974), it ended up on part 1 of this list.
Belonging The first of the Jarret quartet recordings. Very good, although later albums are even better... (1974)
Solstice One of Ralph Towner's best - also an ECM artist. Guitar and Eberhard Webers bass and Garbareks sax. Well liked (1974).
Terje Rypdal Terje Rypdal, fellow norwegian jazz guitarist whom Garbarek started out with. A group effort with varied orchestration. His first ECM recording. Supposedly dated now (1971).
The Essence Of... Geroge Russell, another CD with "the electronic sonata" on it (see below) - plus another track. (1966/70)
