Cabin Fever a group of female corset-wearing cellists...I would describe them as victorian/classically influenced chamber goth rock.
The Three Calamities Consists of a female keyboardist and a classically-trained female vocalist that write songs about witches and ghosts...their music is best described as darkwave or classically-influenced goth.
Clear Hearts Grey Flowers A female fronted band with a singer that can scream with the best of them. Sounds a bit like Babes in Toyland.
Zerospace Like a female Nine Inch Nails. Best described as industrial.
Dummy A band that uses turntables and samples to create a sound that is uniquelly their own. Sounds like the score to an old horror film. Beth Gibbons jazzy vocals are fantastic.
Portishead Portishead's second release. I recommend their first c.d. over this one, though this one is often described as more "goth" sounding than the other.
Taxidermy Even from the few sound clips I've heard by this band, I can already tell you that they are probably the best on this list. The female has one of the scariest voices I've ever heard...she sounds a little like Bjork or like Jessicka from Jack Off Jill. Their circus theme is brilliant.
Drink Me Queen Adreena's second release. I've only heard "Kitty Collar Tight" but that was enough for me to decide that this band is genius.
Eleventeen Daisy Chainsaw was Katy Jane Garside of Queen Adreena's previous band...not nearly as creepy as Queen Adreena, but this c.d. has it's moments. "Hope All Your Dreams Come True" and "Use Me Use You" remind me a lot of Queen Adreena. Sadly, this c.d. is out of print. However, you can get it used or new of this site.
Keepers of the Gloom I've only heard 3 of their songs...but those three songs were enough to make me decide that this c.d. is worth purchasing(though I haven't done so myself yet). Their slightly jazz-influenced sound reminds me of something one would hear floating down the steps of a haunted house. The female singer's haunting vocals and piano and the imagery of their lyrics make for a rather frightening listening experience. Unless you live in Pennsylvania, you probably won't be able to find this c.d. outside of amazon.com, though.
The Chills If their second c.d. is any indication, this one is worth purchasing also.
Future Songs This is the only c.d. of theirs I've been able to find so far...but I was not disappointed. The female vocalist has a high pitched, little girl-ish voice that some my find annoying, but I find it to make their sound even creepier. The first five songs on this c.d. are more "goth" sounding, while the rest are more upbeat with a happier sound. If you want a more goth sound, though, I've heard that their EP collection has a darker sound to it.
Doppelgänger Sounds a lot like Garbage...beautiful vocals.Worth a listen.
Shape of Things to Come The female vocalist's screams make her sound as though she's possessed by satan. It's the heaviest of all the female bands listed, but with only screaming (no singing). The background music is phenomenal and the c.d. artwork is stunning (I bought this c.d. based on the cover alone...spooky).
Auf der Maur Ex-bassist of Hole and Smashing Pumpkins (she played bass on their last tour), Auf der Maur has really proven herself as a noteworthy artist on her debut release. This girl can rock! She plays bass, keyboards, and guitar on this album, and writes 90 percent of her own lyrics (and they're absolutely incredible). This c.d. has it's moments of creepiness, and could definately be labeled "goth", as she seems to have drawn some influence from touring with the Smashing Pumpkins (she sometimes sounds like a female version of them...James Iha (Smashing Pumpkin's guitarist) makes an appearance on the record).
Sweet Heart Dealer Jessicka from Jack Off Jill's latest project. Sounds a lot like Jack Off Jill, but a little mellower.Definately worth purchasing.
