The Birth of Thrash & Speed Metal! (12/11/2002)
As of or around the early 1980s, young metal bands started to hit the underground night clubs around the bay area (San Fancisco, Okland & Los Angeles, California)! Fueled by rebelious punk of the late seventies and the New Wave movement of Heavy British Metal, and getting sick of the flashy side of GLAM music! Many wanted to play louder and faster than their early influences like: Van Halen, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Killing Joke,Kiss,AC/DC, UFO, Motörhead, Deep Purple, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Misfits, The Clash,Diamond head, Venom, Angel Witch, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. Many of these bands became well known as to say by friends telling friends to check these bands out (the metal underground network!) Bands like Metallica that formed in Los Angeles in 1981, became well known basically by passing demo tapes around to friends, fans, and anyone else, which would soon catch the ears of some big record distributors! The bay area was a definite new sub under culture from the high living of Los Angeles to the bays of San Franisco, with the help of drugs and alchol help bands played wild, fast, and in your face! Other soon to be big bands like Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax, would soon find themselves at the top and help fueling the New Wave of American Heavy Metal (better known as Thrash and Speed Metal)! With the Debut of 'Kill 'Em All' (1983) by Metallica, 'Show No Mercy' (1983) by Slayer, 'Fistful of Metal (1983) by Anthrax, and 'Killing is My Business...And Business is Good! (1985) by Megadeth; These albums would signify these bands as the 'Big Four' of Thrash Metal. Exodus was another leading band at this time period with the release of 'Bonded by Blood' (1985), but was not as influential or widely recognized as Megadeth's debut.

METALLICA "The biggest Metal band in the World"
Formed 1981 in Los Angeles, CA, by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Ron McGovney. Metallica was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s, Metallica expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake. Metallica would soon add lead guitarist Dave Mustaine and new basses Cliff Burton to the punch in 1982. With the release of a seven song demo tape in 1982, "No Life Til' Leather, it marked the beginning of a new wave movement soon know as "thrash metal" when Los Angeles was not kickin' it. Metallica stiring up a big attraction when they moved up to San Fransco, and would soon get a record deal! But before the album was release Dave Mustaine was kicked out of the band because of the clashing musicial creativism and inner tentions with drugs and alcohol! For the rest of the band members of metallica, they would soon take over the metal era with the addition of ex-Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett. With James Hetfield developing a signature rhythm playing that matched his growl, while lead guitarist Kirk Hammett became one of the most copied guitarists in metal. Lars Ulrich's thunderous, yet complex, drumming clicked in perfectly with Cliff Burton's innovative bass playing. With their second and third albums, "Ride the Lightning (1984)" and "Master of Puppets (1986)", Metallica would be reign kings of Thrash, and Heavy Metal with release of "Metallica (aka The Black Album)" (1991)!

Being more neolistic towards death and demonds, and the evils that taught us in this life! Slayer rises to write songs about human torment and eviltre of humanity between the thrashes of Metallica and Megadeth! Megadeth Consist of basses David Ellefson, Jazz/fusion guitarist Chris Poland, and Jazz/fussion drummer Gar Samuelson. Influenced by heavy drugs an insane guitar playing, Dave made his new band faster and louder than Metallica by making the music more threatening and nihilistic with the release of "Killing is my business...and business is good. (1985)" Megadeth became one of the leading bands of the genre during the mid-'80s and early nineties with Albums like "Peace Sells..But Who's Buying? (1986), "Rust In Peace (1990)", and "Countdown To Extinction (1992)"; considering the large amount of drug abuse and internal tentions between band members that caused several line-up changes and nearly broke up the band; To say the lease, Megadeth played a vital part in the thrash/speed metal community, and still to this day!

ANTHRAX " "Most Noble band in Thrash!"
Formed Jun 1981 in New York, NY, as for Metallica or Megadeth, Anthrax was responsible for the emergence of speed and thrash metal; combining the speed and fury of hardcore punk with the prominent guitars and vocals of heavy metal, they helped create a new subgenre of heavy metal on their early albums. Original guitarists Scott Ian and Dan Spitz were a formidable pair, spitting out lightning-fast riffs and solos that never seemed masturbatory. Unlike Metallica or Megadeth, they had the good sense to temper their often serious music with a healthy dose of humor and realism. After their first album, Fistful of Metal, singer Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello joined the lineup. Belladonna helped take the band farther away from conventional metal clichés, and over the next five albums (with the exception of 1988's State of Euphoria, where the band sounded like they were in a creative straitjacket), Anthrax arguably became the leaders of speed metal. As the '80s became the '90s, they also began to increase their experiments with hip-hop, culminating in a tour with Public Enemy in 1991!
